Some more reasons for working with six word stories in the classroom: Hones thinking skills – Students have to get their point across in only six words Differentiation – It definitely requires higher thinking skills, but reading or writing six words is so much less intimidating than doing a whole page of it. Vocabulary – Working with words in a meaningful, authentic context. Students expand their understanding of synonyms, connotation and register. Authentic – Students will be part of an authentic, global project. Writing six word stories can be a recurring activity in the English classroom. After learning the concept, students can be asked from time to time to write a six word story for a specific topic, e.g.: My summer, Myself as an English learner, Israel, etc.. They explore the first sws story, attributed to Ernest Hemingway, offering their interpretation of it. Students will analyze and reconstruct the events of the first s.w.s Student practice preliminary skills necessary to write a Six Word Memoir. Students will view other teenagers' s.w.s and express their opinions about them. Hemingway. Teacher explains in short what a s.w.s and then introduces the first task, which is to understand Hemingway's story. 20 1.Students split into groups of 3-4 students and try to reconstruct the events of the story with the aid of the questions on the platform. Groups compare versions. 2. Optional: Students write their six word version of the events. Share and compare with peers. 10 3. Students change 1-2 words in the story to create a new s.w.s.
