From the Headmistress
A very Happy New Year to you all!
Welcome back to the new term after what I hope was a thoroughly enjoyable and well deserved holiday. The
teachers have arrived back full of enthusiasm and the joys of Spring and it has been lovely seeing the children
bouncing in to school, excited to see their friends and catching up on the latest news.
We start the term focusing on our next priorities; a continuing emphasis on the importance of e-safety, the
refinement of our communication channels between school and home by using our website as more of a outlet for
news as well as making the Foremarke Flyer more inventive and innovative and monitoring the build and
completion date of the Phase 3 site which is starting to take shape. On the academic side we are exploring the option
of peripatetic music lessons during the school day to entice more of the children to pick up and learn an instrument;
we also want to encourage the children to have more of a focus on challenge, choice and independence and really
start to hone these explicit learning skills as well as their ability to grow their skills of mastery (i.e. a very high level
of understanding) in every subject.
Over the next two terms, there will be some in depth market research undertaken by an external consultancy as to
the viability of opening Years 7 and 8. Therefore by June, at the end of this academic year, together with the Board of
Governors, I will have made a firm decision whether to withdraw the plans for Years 7 and 8 completely or to start
with immediate effect the strategy for implementation.
I started the term by asking all the teachers and support staff to define a Foremarke child. I wanted them to think
about the type of child we strive to educate and they type of child that will leave our school. Without any hesitation,
my team described your children as; resilient, resourceful, independent, reflective, empathetic, humble, gracious,
proud, polite, risk takers, culturally aware, creative, critical thinkers, respectful, knowledgeable, academic,
ambitious and high achieving. How proud you must be to have children who are thought of as having these
qualities. This is the vision of Foremarke; to have the two strong pillars of academic excellence and pastoral care so
tightly interwoven and supported by the perpetual reminder of the traditional core values of respect, courtesy and
tolerance. This is how to create a true Foremarkian.
As I mentioned at the end of the Autumn term, the KHDA inspection will be for four days starting on the 23rd
January. That week will be business as usual; we are not going to put on a show for the inspection, we are simply
going to show case our strengths and I am looking forward to the recognition of progress made since March 2016
that my team well deserve. I do however, ask for your consideration and understanding for them. No matter how
good anybody is at their job, Inspection is a stressful time. As professionals, I know my team will deliver, but I am
also aware that any reduction of pressure on them over minor issues would be much appreciated.

POLITE REMINDERS:
A number of very lucky children have returned from the holidays proudly wearing new iWatches, Fitbits and
other transportable devices. Whilst we support the advances of technology and encourage the children’s safe
and purposeful use of it, we must insist that any personal devices brought to school are not used interactively.
For the safety and personal security of all pupils, all devices must be used in flight mode and silenced and
must not be used to send or receive any form of messages, record sounds or videos or capture images from
within school. Any device that creates an unnecessary distraction and/or is used inappropriately will be
confiscated. Furthermore, the school will not take responsibility for the loss of or damage to highly valuable
personal items.
Week 2 - School led and paid activities start.
We kindly ask all parents to PLEASE

News from Foundation
Reception kicked off the new term with the topic ‘Pirates’. Caterpillars kindly invited us into their class to
have a look at their fantastic work, painting pirates, colouring parrots and making swords and hooks. Within
all this play they have been learning to use colour for a purpose, to discuss and paint facial form and increase
brush control to help with handwriting. When asked what his favourite moment this week had been, Aashvik
Patney said, “making hooks with all the kids”.
Nursery have started the term with Transport as their topic. The corridor will soon be awash with pictures of
planes, trains and trucks. The Jellyfish class has enjoyed their observational painting task. This is
demonstrated by a one to one interaction where they discuss what they see, place a scene where they want and
draw it.
We visited Jellyfish to see what they had to say, when we asked Amelia Millar-Hau what her favourite part had
been, she said, “coffee bean role play with my friends, Anaya, Macy, Sophie, Saahiba, Leyla……” She went on
to list the whole class!
