We are a caring family of God’s Children growing in faith,
spreading His Word, and doing His Work in the community and beyond.
One of the main growth opportunities that
was stressed during the mission planning
process was a desire to have more adult faith
formation, I couldn’t have agreed more.
Starting in March we will all be journeying
through Martin Luther’s Small Catechism in
honor of the 500th anniversary of the
Reformation. While this document may bring
back some pains from Confirmation, I hope
that you might study it once again with a
sense of curiosity, wonder, and interest in
learning Luther’s understanding of some
things that appear in almost every one of our
worship services.
The Small Catechism was written and
designed in 1529 by Luther to be a basic
instruction book for families studying the
Christian faith. It includes the following
writings as well as commentary on them: The
Ten Commandments, The Apostle’s Creed,
The Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, The Office of the
Keys and Confession, The Lord’s Supper, and
a few prayers for daily use.
The legacy of this almost five hundred year old
book continues to have an impact on us as a
global church. Works like this, and countless
others from our sisters and brothers in faith,
prepare us to be witnesses in speech and in action
of God’s rich mercy in Jesus Christ. Each week
when we gather for worship we hear many of
these things that Luther commented on, and
during the remainder of week we are called to live
them out in faith.
Please join us and refresh yourself or learn for the
first time the treasures of Luther’s Small
Catechism. During the spring we will look at the
Ten Commandments and the Apostle’s Creed.
Over the summer we will study who Luther was
and his continued impact today. And finally in
the fall we will explore the Lord’s Prayer and the
Sacraments.
God’s Peace!
