Week 5 Fertilization
The three numbers on a fertilizer represent the ratio of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. The best
time to use a nitrogen rich fertilizer is for seedling and young plants. The nitrogen assists in leaf
formation and therefore chlorophyll production. High potassium fertilizer is most helpful for droughtstricken times/areas as well as helping deter pests. I would use this kind of fertilizer here in New Mexico
in more than perhaps other areas, since we are constantly facing the desert’s dryness.
