Beginning a New Presentation
Creating a Presentation
1. Start PowerPoint 2013.
2. On the right panel, click the desired
Template or Theme.
a. Note: If desired, choose Blank
Presentation.
3. On the pop-up window, choose the desired
color style for the selected
Template/Theme.
a. Click the More Images left or right
arrow to preview the selected
Template/Theme.
4. Click Create.
Working with Slides
Adding a Simple Slide
1. Click the HOME tab.
2. In the Slides group, click the New Slide icon.
Adding a Note
Note: By default, the Notes pane is not
displayed. From the Status bar, click the NOTES
button to display the Notes pane.
1. Click the Notes pane and type in the desired
text.

2. When finished, click anywhere outside the
Notes pane.

a. The Reuse slides pane will open on the
right.
Saving a New Presentation
1. Click the FILE tab > Save.
a. Or press Ctrl + S.
2. Click the Browse button.
a. By default, all files will be saved on the
local computer.
3. Navigate to the desired location.
4. Enter the File name.
5. Click Save.
Insert Slides from Another Presentation
1. From the Slides pane, select a slide.
a. Note: The imported slide will be
inserted after the selected slide.
2. Click the HOME tab.
3. In the Slides group, click the New Slide
drop-down menu > Reuse Slides…
4. Click the Browse drop-down menu >
Browse File…
5. Locate and select the desired file.
6. Click Open.
a. Slide thumbnails will appear on the
right.
7. To insert the desired slide, right-click the
slide and click Insert Slide.
a. Or click Insert All Slides.
Applying a Theme
1. From the Slides pane, select the slide(s) to
add a theme to.
2. Click the DESIGN tab.
3. In the Themes group, right-click the desired
theme, click Apply to Selected Slides or
Apply to All Slides.
a. Note: Place the cursor over a theme will
allow the user to preview the theme.
4. If desired, in the Variants group, right-click
the desired variant and click Apply to
Selected Slides or Apply to All Slides.
Applying a Different Layout
1. From the Slides pane, right-click the desired
slide.

2. Move the cursor over Layout and select the
desired layout style.
a. Note: This will only change the layout of
the selected slide(s).

3. In the Images group, click Pictures.
3. In the Advanced Animation group, click
Animation Painter.
4. Locate and select the desired image.
5. Click Insert.

a. To paint the effect more than once,
double-click Animation Painter.

Inserting a Clip Art
Note: Internet connection is required.
1. Select the desired slide from the Slides
pane.
2. Click the INSERT tab.
3. In the Images group, click Online Pictures.
Formatting an Image
1. Click the desired image.
2. Click the FORMAT tab.
3. Edit any desired options, e.g., Picture Styles
and Size.
Animations and Transitions
4. On the pop-up window, enter a term
representative of the desired image (e.g.,
audience, question mark) in the Office.com
Clip Art field.
Adding Animation for an Object
1. Select the desired object or text.
2. Click the ANIMATIONS tab.
3. In the Animation group, click the desired
animation.
4. In the Timing group, change the Start,
Duration, or Delay option.
a. Note: Click Apply To All to apply the
same effect for the entire presentation.
5. Press Enter.
6. Select the desired clip art from the search
results and click Insert.
Inserting an Image from another Source
1. Select the desired slide from Slides pane.
2. Click the INSERT tab.

Applying Transition Effects
1. From the Slides pane, select the desired
slide.
2. Click the TRANSITIONS tab.
3. In the Transition to This Slide group, click
the desired effect.
4. In the Timing group, edit the Sound,
Duration, and Advance Slide options if
desired.
Preparing a Presentation for
Delivery
Copying Animation between Objects
1. Select the object or text with the animation.
2. Click the ANIMATIONS tab.
Adding Header and Footer
1. From the Slides pane, select the desired
slide.
2. Click the INSERT tab.

3. In the Text group, click Header & Footer.
4. In the Header and Footer pop-up window,
check as desired: Date and time, Slide
number, and Footer.
a. Note: If Footer is checked, enter the
text in the Footer field.
5. Click Apply.
a. Or click Apply to All to apply it to the
entire presentation.

4. After the last slide, a question box will pop
up, asking if you want to save the new slide
timing.
5. Click Yes.
Printing Handouts for Your Audience
1. Click the FILE tab > Print.
a. Or press Ctrl + P.
2. Select a printer from the Printer drop-down
list.
3. In the Settings group, under Slides, use the
drop-down menu to modify the default
choice of Full Page Slides to a desired
layout under Handouts.
Inserting Slide Numbers
1. Click the INSERT tab.
2. In the Text group, click Slide Number.
3. In the Header and Footer pop-up window,
check Slide number.
4. If desired, check Don’t show on title slide.
5. Click Apply to All.
Rehearsing a Presentation
1. Click the SLIDE SHOW tab.
2. In the Set Up group, click Rehearse Timings.
4. Click Print.
a. The Slideshow begins.
b. Rehearsal toolbar appears in the top
left corner of the screen.
3. A mouse-click will skip to the next slide and
the time elapsed to change slides (and
animations, if any) will be recorded.
