and ends at McGregor Memorial Conference Center, 495 Ferry Mall, on the campus of
Wayne State University in Detroit.

"A portion of the route traces the path of the June 23, 1963 'Detroit’s March to
Freedom' that concluded with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. reciting his 'I Have a Dream'
speech for the first time ever to a crowd of 25,000-plus at Cobo Hall," planners say in a
release. "It will also pass several historical sites relevant to Dr. King and other local
activists who participated in the 1963 march and were otherwise instrumental in
shepherding the local Civil Rights movement."

This is the event's first year.
“We’re excited for our inaugural Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bike Ride,” said
Kelli B. Kavanaugh, co-director of Tour de Troit. “There are many ways to honor Dr.
King on Monday and bike riders have shown a lot of interest for cycling in celebration
of his life and legacy as one of them. It’s our hope to make this an annual ride.”
