This year 75 secondary care units in England submitted data to the National Diabetes Audit
(NDA) an increase from 62 in the previous year.
Secondary care unit participation by audit year is shown in Table 1.

Of the 75 secondary care units participating in the 2010-2011 audit, only 40 took part in the
2009-2010 audit. These are the only secondary care units where two year time series analysis
will be possible in this report.
Registrations
This year, The James Cook University Hospital submitted data for 2,236 patients with diabetes.
Table 2 shows the total number of registrations by diabetes type.

All patients aged 12 years and over should receive all of the nine, National Institute for Clinical
Excellence (NICE) recommended, care processes (the core annual review ‘bundle’).

At a national level, patients under the age of 55 years with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes are less
likely than those who are 55 years and over to complete their annual checks.
Table 4 to Table 9 show the variation in the recording of care processes by age group and diabetes

NICE recommended treatment targets for glucose control, blood pressure and blood cholesterol.
