General SGA Meeting Minutes Thursday, November 8, 2012 9:00 Scheduled Time Start Time: 9:03 p.m. Attendance: Julianne Atwater, Jamie Crowell, Payne Ford, Jerome Graham, Rebecca Shaw, Austin Steelman, Cody Shepard, Sharon Lemire, Bethany Hawk, Vladimir Saintine, Katie Muirhead, Sam Losano, Jessie Keech, Sarah Andrus, Kelsey Waddle I. Welcome—Payne A. Vladimir opened us up in prayer. B. Executive SGA Update: 1. The SGA Christmas Party will be held on Monday, Dec. 3. 2. The Exec. Council has been working to get more open dorms hours for ENC. a) Payne has been researching open dorms information on other Christian colleges. b) He has made an online survey that he will email to students. II. Rec. Life Update—Payne A. Volleyball season started last week and is going very well. B. The Sunday series have been struggling. 1. Austin will be taking them more seriously. 2. Now, before your series, you must do three things: a) You must put up a banner in the Caf. 3 days before the event. b) You must have signups posted on the Rec. Life wall a week and half before the event. c) You must sit at the table in the Student Center during two mealtimes. III. Spiritual Life Update—Jerome A. The next Kingdom Experience will be next Thursday, 11/15. B. It will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium. IV. Social Life Update—Mixi A. The Voice started this Monday, 11/5. 1. It went very well. 2. It had a good turnout. B. It will continue on 11/12 & 11/19. V. Financial Update—Rebecca A. Class councils that are going to be paying speakers from class chapel must let Rebecca know. VI. Publicity Update—Jamie A. So far, word of mouth has been the most effective method for publicizing events. VII. Commuter Council Update—Vladimir A. They are having a bake sale on Thursday, 11/29, in the Mann lobby. 1. They are considering doing a “culture bakesale.” 2. Vladimir will bring it up in their meeting this Monday. B. Vladimir emailed a survey to all commuters to see what events they were most interested in; the winning events were Skyzone and Dave & Buster’s. C. Vladimir will check with Dr. Wesley to see if commuters can come in and eat in the cafeteria if they do not buy lunch there. D. Concerns were raised about the congestion in the Commuter parking lot. 1. There are so many cars that it is often hard to find an open parking spot there. 2. However, commuters are allowed to park in the Waterston Lot. VIII. SAAC Update—Sam A. The Street Fair went very well. 1. They bought 90 hotdogs and sold them all. 2. They made a good profit. B. Midnight Madness has been renamed “Late-night Madness.” 1. It will take place Wed., 11/14. 2. Jamie will be putting a slide up for the event. 3. They will make announcements during mealtimes. 4. Savannah is making a video that will be shown in chapel on Wed, 11/14. C. They are doing a white-out for the girls’ first home game on 11/28. 1. They will be selling white t-shirts. D. They are doing a black-out for the men’s home game on 11/21. E. They are also going shopping for disaster relief supplies, using the money gained during the chapel offering taken on Friday, Nov. 9. IX. Senior Class Update—Sharon A. Most of the events are winding down. 1. They did not make too much money at the Street Fair. 2. It ran smoothly, though, and they turned a small profit. B. Class chapel went well. C. The council is planning ideas for the Senior Gift. 1. Payne will be talking to potential donors willing to give money for a class scholarship. 2. Right now, the council is looking to improve the facilities in Shrader Hall. D. They are planning a class trip to Canobie Lake Park in the spring. X. Junior Class Update—Kelsey A. They did pretty good at the Street Fair. B. Their class chapel went great. C. Their social event is Mario Party. 1. It takes place at 7 p.m. tomorrow (11/9) in the gymnasium. 2. That’s what they have been focusing on the last few weeks. D. They have also begun working hard on the Junior-Senior Banquet. 1. They are working on a survey. a) They will send it out to juniors and seniors. b) This will ask them about their preferences as far as food, etc. 2. They are still working on booking a venue. a) It is very hard to find a venue open for that day. b) Kelsey has talked to hotels, but they appear out of their price range. c) She has also been in contact with Granite Links golf course, via Cheryl Weisen. E. Their Rec. Life event is this Sunday, 11/11. 1. It is called “Anarchy Ball: Trash Can Games.” 2. It starts at 3 p.m. in the gym. XI. Sophomore Class Update—Sarah A. They did well at the Street Fair. B. Class chapel went okay. C. They are trying to get a musician to come give a free concert next semester. D. Their next event is Dec. 2. E. The Blood Drive went very well. 1. Each slot was filled up. 2. They had enough workers. 3. They had to reschedule because of the hurricane; it turned out well. XII. Freshman Class Update—Jessie A. They did okay at the Street Fair. B. They had their Rec. Life event last Sunday. 1. It had a pretty low turnout. C. Their Social Life event is a spelling bee on 11/19. D. Class chapel went great. 1. Robin Dean led the chapel. 2. It broke down barriers and encouraged honesty and unity. XIII. Nautilus Update—Katie A. Senior packets are due 11/16. B. Katie is working frantically to determine who is actually graduating this year (a lot of people are still classified as Juniors). 1. Anybody graduating by Dec. 2013 should be included this year. 2. We are trying to spread the word to all potential graduates. C. Katie still needs pictures from the freshman and junior class councils. 1. All councils should coordinate their outfits. 2. The freshman council will get its picture taken before chapel on 11/9. D. Katie will be taking pictures of all clubs and organizations. 1. If, for some reason, your club needs to get your picture taken by a certain time (such as before next semester, etc.) please let Katie now as soon as possible. XIV. Veritas Update—Cody A. Issue 5 came out on Tuesday, 11/6. 1. It was an online version. 2. The printing company was shut down due to the hurricane, so the Veritas was allowed to put this issue online. 3. The website already has over 400 unique hits and over 1000 page views, which is great. B. A mass email was sent out to all students, providing the link to the website. C. They are still trying to go online for every issue. 1.The final proposal to go fully online was sent out on 9/28. 2. The newspaper staff has yet to hear back on a final decision. D. Cody would really appreciate feedback on the online version. XV. RA Update—Bethany A. The themes for November/December are “community service” and “cultural insight.” 1. The girls’ dorms are running clothing drives and other service projects. 2. Most floors are planning Christmas parties, etc. B. Payne asked that the floor Christmas parties will not overlap with the SGA Christmas party. C. Bethany will email all of the RAs notifying them of Payne’s request. XVI. Motion to Adjourn—Payne A.
