Know that energy from the sun is converted to food energy by
plants.
Construct a food chain when given food sources.
Explain a balanced diet, emphasizing the food pyramid.
Tell how good posture affects the body.
Describe the general structure and function of the body systems
(bones/muscles).
Demonstrate good dental habits including a review of correct
brushing and flossing techniques.
Recognize and accept individual differences, including personal
handicapping conditions.
State ways to take care of his/her body.
Name behaviors that promote a healthy lifestyle.
Understand their health behaviors in terms of health promotion
and illness prevention.
Distinguish between infectious and noninfectious illness.
Identify habits that may increase risk of illness.
Give reasons why people do and do not misuse and abuse
specific drugs, including alcohol, tobacco, over-the-counter
medicines and prescription drugs.
Explain the difference between use and abuse of drugs and
medicines.
Recognize positive alternatives to medicines and chemical
substances.
Know people who can provide help for medicine and chemical
substance use problems.
Recognize that some common products contain chemical
substances such as caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.
Describe the behavioral effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other
drugs.
Describe health hazards and media influence associated with
tobacco.
Tell why alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, over-the-counter medicines
and prescription drugs can be dangerous if misused.
Practice saying "no" to drugs.
