Sunday 17 April 2016
This term is sure to be an exciting one as the children prepare for completing Year 5. Please read the reminders below
and re-familiarise yourself with the schools expectations for pupils in Year 5.
Reminders for this week:
 A reminder that all students should be writing in joined handwriting now. Could you please be vigilent about
this at home and support your children with developing their handwriting skills. We use the Nelson handwriting
Scheme.
 As we are trying to make students more independent please be aware that your child must bring a pencil case to
school. These should include the following items; pencils, glue stick, coloured pencils / markers, highlighters,
pencil sharpener and eraser.
 Remember that the school operates a ‘no hat, no play’ policy. In the interest of child safety, so please remind
your child that they MUST bring a sunhat/cap for playing outside. All clothing should be labelled please.
 All students must have a plastic or metal water bottle with their name written on it. It is not acceptable to send in a
single use plastic bottle each day. These bottles are easily misplaced and lost, resulting in missed break times, or
dehydrated students.

Year 5 Homework
We are starting a new “50 Point Challenge”
There are three 50 point challenges. Please see homework books!
One for Maths, English (Writing) and Integrated Curriculum (Science, Geography and History).
During Term 3 you will have all the homework activities for Maths, English and Integrated Curriculum in front of
you and ready to complete whenever you deem necessary.
Your child is required to attain at least 50 points in each of the three challenges by the end of the term. This is
a minimum requirement but we will encourage them to attempt as many as possible.
They will need to write the challenge title and number in the homework books and then complete the tasks.
E.g. Maths - Activity 5 – completed work
As easy as that…. We will keep track of how they are doing and make sure they are on track to complete the
minimum total of 50 points for each of the three subjects.
Spelling: Will continue as normal: each week your child will be given a list (in their spelling books) to practice
and we will test them.
Reading: Each week your child will be expected to read for 15 minutes per day. They should then write down
what they read in their Communication book and get a parent to sign.
Homework
All homework in Term 3 must be done in joined handwriting. Homework will be given out weekly. Those
students needing help or support need to talk to their teacher during break or after school. If homework is not
brought in on Sunday, students face losing some or all of their Golden Time and may be asked to complete
during their break times. Please ensure that children stick their own homework into their correct
homework books… Thanks.
