1-DAY DAINTREE DREAMING TOUR
(FEATURING KUKU YALANJI CULTURAL HABITAT TOURS)
Tour Description/
Itinerary
Cooya Beach, north of Port Douglas is a traditional fishing ground of the Kuku Yalanji Bama.
On this two hour tour, your Kuku Yalanji guide (Brandon or Linc Walker) will introduce you to
traditional fishing and gathering techniques including spear throwing and handling as it is still
practised today. With spear in hand, join your guide for an informative walk along the white
sandy beach of Cooya Beach, through coastal mudflats and mangrove habitat teeming with
aquatic life, in search of bush tucker of mud crabs, mussels and small fish (at the end of the
tour, feast on your catch of the day, freshly made damper and a refreshing drink).
Then be taken on a journey steeped in heritage, ancient culture and traditions at Mossman
Gorge where you will experience a Welcome to Country ‘smoking’ ceremony. This ceremony is
conducted by Aboriginal people with specialized cultural knowledge and will protect you whilst
visiting Kuku Yalanji country. Enjoy a delicious lunch infused with local flavours at the Mayi Cafe
before wandering into the lush rainforest of the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park.
An easy going walk is across boardwalks, tracks and bridges protecting the delicate eco system
that adorns spectacular waterfalls and mountain ranges. Your guide will explain the rich flora,
fauna and eco system of this amazing rainforest. Ensure you bring your swimming bathers so
you can make the most of the beautiful private swimming hole that is encased in the rainforest.
You may choose the optional Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk with an Aboriginal guide.
