We welcome FR. PEDRO CHINGANDU, M.S., who is the
Provincial Superior of the Missionaries of La Salette in
Angola, to our Parish of Mary Queen to preach an appeal
on behalf of the missionary work of the La Salettes
worldwide. .
Fr. Pedro was born in Angola in 1963 during the
Portuguese Colonial Era. Three Angolan liberation
movements (FNLA, MPLA & UNITA) began fighting each
other creating a period of chaos, political persecution and
death in the country. In 1976 Fr. Pedro’s parents decided
to leave their home and seek refuge in Zambia. At 12
years of age Pedro became a refugee and his first home
was under a tree marked by a sign which read “Road 19,
Plot 88.”
In 1979 a La Salette priest from Switzerland began
working with Angolan & Zairians in Zambia. He got to
know Pedro and sent him to study at the minor seminary
where he got his high school diploma in 1987. Unable to
return to his home in Angola because of the civil war
Pedro was sent to Cochabamba, Bolivia for his Novitiate
with the La Salettes and then to Brazil for his theological
studies. The Lusaka Accord brought a period of relative
peace in Angola and Fr. Pedro was able to return home to
be ordained a priest on April 15, 1996.
In 1999 Fr. Pedro returned to his home country after
spending 15 years as a refugee in Zambia and 8 years of
study in Brazil. He became the Novice Master and six
months later in January, 2000 he was elected Regional
Superior in Angola. During his first term of service he was
abducted by UNITA rebels which fortunately lasted only a
week. At the end of his second term he came to the
United States and worked at the National Shrine of Our
Lady of La Salette in Attleboro, and four years later in
2010 he came to serve at St. Thomas the Apostle in
Smyrna, GA where Fr. Jim was serving as pastor.
Speaking Portuguese, Spanish, English and a few African
dialects he was a valuable minister in that multi-cultural
parish setting.
In January of 2013, while still in the USA, Fr. Pedro was
elected to be the first Provincial Superior of the newly
established province in Angola and he was re-elected
again in January of this year.
It is with great joy we welcome Fr. Pedro to preach our La
Salette Mission appeal here at Mary Queen.

Choose one of the following activities as a way
to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
•
In the Gospel reading for Sunday, we learn the
prayer that Jesus taught us, the Lord's Prayer.
Sometime during this week, use the Lord’s Prayer as
part of your before-meal prayer. Join hands around
the table when you pray it.
•
Pray the Lord's Prayer slowly and meditatively. Talk
about what each petition means to you. Remind
family members that this is the prayer Jesus himself
taught us to pray. Express to your children the value
of praying together as a family, as a community of
believers,
and
as
individuals.
Remind
family
members that praying does not mean always asking
God for something. Sometimes it means being silent
and listening to what God is speaking to you.

Father Tullio Proserpio, Chaplain of
the National Cancer Institute of
Milan. Author of Research on Hope
in Cancer Patients.
Description: The biblical story of
Lazarus
reminds
us
of
the
importance of family, hope and trust.
This special workshop is for all
parishioners and area guests that are
caring for loved ones that may be very ill and possibly
dying. It is also for those who have struggled with the
issue of how to best care for these friends and family in a
compassionate and Christian way, or who seek to do so.
The workshop will focus on a spirituality of death and
dying and will offer practical tips on pastoral care while
engaging attendees in meaningful discussion.
About the presenter: Ordained in 1996, Father Tullio
Proserpio has served since 2003 as Chaplain at the
Cancer Institute in Milan, Italy, which is similar to our
area’s MD Anderson and other Cancer Centers. He is
currently doing research at the Methodist Research
Institute on Hope in Cancer Patients, taking advantage of
the diversity of cultures that the Texas Medical Center
offers. His work and experience include spirituality,
pastoral care, adolescent care, and the psychology of faith
and science. He is author and co-author of scientific
articles on these topics. He collaborates with physicians,
nurses, social workers, psychologists and other chaplains.
He is a member of the Consulta dell’Ufficio Nazionale per
la Pastorale della Salute della Conferenza Episcopale
Italiana—the National Office of Pastoral Care of the Italian
Episcopal Conference. He is also member of the Ethics
Committee of the National Cancer Institute in Milan and an
expert in bioethics. He is also an architect and avid
supporter of the soccer team AC Milan, “although these
years it is in a very bad situation!” He also likes to run but
says of Houston that “unfortunately here is very wet!)
Welcome Fr. Proserpio to Mary Queen!

Consecration to Jesus through Mary presented by Women Under Mary’s Mantle:
Souls consecrated to our Holy
Mother are under her protection in a
special way, and receive great
graces. She will bring us closer to
Jesus than we ever could get on
our own. Every soul that completes
this consecration brings us closer to
the day that our Lady prophesized
at Fatima: "In the end, my
Immaculate Heart will Triumph."
Now you have the opportunity to individually consecrate
your life to Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
by completing the Total Consecration founded in the 18th
century by Saint Louis Marie de Montfort. The de
Montfort Total Consecration is the most complete and
most perfect consecration formula to Our Lady. It is the
formula personally made and lived by Pope John Paul II,
and recommended by him to us.
Schedule of classes include group Prayer of
Consecration for the Day, Rosary and a Lesson on the
Consecration as listed below:
Tuesday, July 26th - 7:00 PM – Mini Hall - Consecration
According to St. Maximilian Kolbe.
Tuesday, August 2nd – 7:00 PM - Mini Hall –
Consecration According to Blessed Mother Teresa.
Tuesday, August 9th – 7:00 PM – Mini Hall Consecration According to St. Pope John Paul II.
Tuesday, August 16th – 7:00 PM – Mini Hall Testimonies and importance of Consecration today.
Tuesday, August 23rd – 7:00 PM – Church –
Consecration Ceremony and fellowship.
Books: True Devotion, by St. Louis de Montfort; and 33
Days to Morning Glory, by Fr. Michael Gaitley
For questions please contact Linda Robison at 281-3160420.
Acolytes are part of a long tradition in the church and
bring to each celebration of the liturgy a necessary,
useful and special ministry. The word acolyte means
“follower” or “attendant.” Acolytes are trained by the
archdiocese and instituted by the bishop as ministers of
the church. The main duties of the acolytes at Mary
Queen are to serve as an assistant to the priest and
deacon during services, master of ceremonies and the
person that normally purifies the sacred vessels after
Mass. The instituted acolytes currently serving are Mark
Barrett, Floyd Bartsch, David Chenevert, Vince Eklund,
Gary Lorance, Richard Mireles, Greg Otto, Dick
Roberson, Derick Soares, Tom Stang, Tim Westhoven,
Jim Whitehead and Richard Wiedner. Any male, adult
parishioner interested in becoming an acolyte should
contact Fr. Jim.
Respect Life Ministry Calendar
The second Wednesday of each month is
Respect Life Rosary and Mass. The Rosary
begins at 6:00 PM and Mass begins at 6:30
PM.
There is a Respect Life Eucharistic Holy Hour on the
second Sunday of each month from 3:00 - 4:00 PM, in

This is vacation time for many people. You can always
tell by the number of people who are away during the
summer. Vacations are times when we can relax and
reflect and enter into a new kind of pace that will help
us see our lives in a different way. Jesus says: "Come
to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome,
and I will refresh you." Vacation time, wherever it is
taken, can and should be a time to be RE-CREATED.
We certainly see it as a time to be renewed
physically ... how about spiritually? Perhaps we could
make a special effort to welcome those people who
are in our midst as vacationers, visitors, or tourists.
And, if you're planning to be away, check with
masstimes.org to locate the nearest Sunday Mass
near your vacation spot. The lazy, hazy days of
summer can be a time to experience the touch of the
Lord in a unique kind of way. Copyright © 2009 Resource
