Haroun and the Sea of Stories LETTER OF INTENT

Haroun and the Sea of Stories
LETTER OF INTENT
Dear Students and Parents,
This fall’s Middle School production is Salman Rushdie’s Haroun and the Sea of Stories. Mr. Rushdie’s story
was first made into a play based on the book and then adapted for the stage by Tim Supple and David Tushingham;
with its stage premiere in 1998 at the Royal National Theatre in London.
A perfect mix of comic humor, colorful characters and fluid storytelling, Haroun and the Sea of Stories is
based upon bedtime stories Rushdie told to his young son, and it has been described as a “message of hope” and “a
testimony to creativity” because elements of the story have been drawn from Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz,
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and the folktale of Rapunzel.
We are indeed excited about this play, and this letter of intent will allow the production team to maximize
its ability to cast and produce a show with the least amount of scheduling conflicts, while at the same time
communicating to students and parents the level of commitment required to be involved in this production before
the audition process begins. We understand students are busy with academics, sports, activities, and clubs. While
we believe academics come first, this production is a significant commitment and must be a priority for the student
involved.
Below, please find a list of the roles we will be casting for in this production. We will audition any students
who complete this Letter of Intent and sign-up to audition.
