All of mankind (p 78) Even though God’s plan of redemption was through Abraham, all nations will be blessed because of God’s promise. NAS 3 Genesis 12:2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." The United States Census Bureau estimates that the world population exceeded 7 billion on March 12, 2012 Table Question 1: In your own words, why is it important to think about God’s plan of redemption in global terms? Table Question 2: When you think about the mission of your church, does the rest of the globe factor in at all? How so? *Where Christ Has Not Been Named Operation World, Paperback: 978 pages, Publisher: IVP Books; 07 edition (October 15, 2010), ISBN-10: 0830857249, ISBN-13: 978-0830857241; A definitive prayer guide to the nations, peoples and cities of the world. NAS Romans 15:20-21 And thus I aspired to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build upon 21 another man's foundation; but as it is written (Isaiah 52), "They who had no news of Him shall see, And they who have not heard shall understand." NAS Isaiah 52:7-10 How lovely on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace And brings good 8 news of happiness, Who announces salvation, And says to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices, They 9 shout joyfully together; For they will see with their own eyes When the LORD restores Zion. Break forth, shout joyfully together, 10 You waste places of Jerusalem; For the LORD has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD has bared His holy arm In the sight of all the nations, That all the ends of the earth may see The salvation of our God. NAS Romans 10:12-15 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all 13 14 who call upon Him; for "Whoever will call upon the name of the LORD will be saved." How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a 15 preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings of good things!" Table Question 3: Take some time to think about the passages above (Romans 15:20-21, Isaiah 52:7-10, Romans 10:12-15). How should these truths affect the way we think about our calling? *Before the End Will Come NAS Matthew 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come. According to Jesus in book of Matthew, when will the end come? God sends His people out into the world to embody and to proclaim His healing, and He will not wrap up human history until this has been accomplished (p 82) Table Question 4: Have you given much thought to the unreached people groups around the world? If so, how does this affect your thinking and lifestyle? If not, why do you think you have never thought about it? *Working Together for the Gospel Once we start developing a passion for Christ’s glory to be seen around the world, we need to figure out what role we are called to play (p 84). We all need to consider whether God is calling us to follow Him onto the mission field, but we have to remember that this is not the only way of working to fulfill God’s plan to reach every nation (p 85). How many embassies are in Washington D.C.? Approximately 173 How many nationalities are represented in the Arlington County School System? Approximately 206 NAS 3 John 1:5-8 Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are 6 strangers; and they bear witness to your love before the church; and you will do well to send them on their way in a manner 7 8 worthy of God.: For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support such men, that we may be fellow workers with the truth. How can we best work together in reaching the world for Christ? Think globally, pray for the peoples of the world, involvement in cross cultural ministries, mobilizing others to become Global Christians, connect with mission teams. Table Question 5: Take a minute to pause and ask God what He wants for your life. Ask Him to break through any excuses you may be hiding behind and idols you might be clinging to. Ask Him to make you willing to follow Him in whichever direction He might lead. If you have any thoughts based on this time of prayer, make a few notes below. Table Question 6: How would you describe your role in furthering the gospel around the world? If nothing comes to mind, write down few things that you can begin to pursue in order to make missions a part of your life. *A Vision of the End In order to reach a goal, sometimes it is very important to envision how things will be when you reach this goal. John gives us a great picture of what our goal will look like when God’s work has been accomplished. NAS Revelation 7:9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in 10 their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." Table Question 7: In order to faithfully follow Jesus and play your part I God’s plan of redemption, what should your life look like right now? (This is a huge question, but try to write down a few things to guide you as you seek to put the things you’ve learned into practice.) Table Question 8: Spend some time in prayer. Ask God to help you submit to Him entirely. Ask Him to guide you and empower you in anything He calls you to do. Pray that God would use you in your neighborhood and around the world in any capacity that He sees fit. November 3, 2013 – Led by Glenn Collier
