e-Girls, hosted by the College of Engineering at Boise State , a two-day adventure camp for high school girls
exploring careers in engineering and computer science. e-Girls has been hosted annually at Boise State since 2005, and
hosted 409 girls so far! Tracking the girls after graduation - 50% of the participants pursue a STEM career in college.
e-Girls – Where are they now?
Ashley Zumwalt Newbry, e-Girls 2005, B.S. in Civil Engineering May 2011 from Boise
State University, interned for Kiewit Bridge & Marine Co. and served as a lead in the
Society of Women Engineers while at Boise State. She worked as an Environmental
Scientist for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Water Resources, and is now a Staff Engineer
at the City of Meridian.
Stephanie Johnson, e-Girls 2005, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering May 2013 from Boise
State University, interned for the IAC Energy group, and is now an Energy Performance
Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington.
Daniela Aizpitarte, e-Girls 2005, B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and Chemistry, May
2012 from the University of Pittsburgh. She had several research positions, worked
for FLIR Systems working on the production and quality control testing of chemical
monitoring devices, and is now a Regulatory Affairs Engineer at Philips in
Pennsylvania.
Carly Gerard Lockard, e-Girls 2005, B.S. in Exercise Science, Biomechanics May 2012 from Boise
State University. Carly was a Top Ten scholar, and was a student research assistant for the
Center for Orthopaedic & Biomechanics Research at Boise State. Carly is pursuing a master’s in
Mechanical Engineering and a Teaching Assistant at the University of Utah.
Morgan Harding, e-Girls 2005, B.S. in Chemical Engineering in May 2012 from the University
of Idaho. She is currently a doctoral student in Chemical Engineering at the University of
Florida, conducting research on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. She worked at
Micron Technology as an intern for 4 summers, and worked at a NASA Space Camp in the
summer of 2010.
Courtney Hollar, e-Girls 2006, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, minors in Applied Math and
Biomedical Engineering in December 2013 from Boise State. She has worked as an undergraduate
research assistant in materials characterization lab for the past two years. She has been accepted
into the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Program at Stanford, University of Michigan, University
of Utah, and Oregon State University, she plans to pursue a Ph.D starting Fall 2014.
Sara Isom, e-Girls 2006, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in May 2013 from Boise State University. Sara
completed a summer internship as a Reliability Intern at Barrick Gold Corporation in 2012, and is now an
Area Industrial Engineer at Micron Technology.
Nikki Armstrong, e-Girls 2007, is pursuing a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Washington
State University. She has obtained an internship for Summer 2014 at Anvil Corp. and
plans on pursuing a master’s in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on Acoustics.
Miren Aispitarte, e-Girls 2009, is pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at California
Polytechnic State University. She was a student researcher at University of Pittsburgh
during the summer of 2012, and interned for Western Aircraft in Boise, summer of 2013.
Jordan Wilson, e-Girls 2010, will graduate in December 2014 with a B.S. in Pure Mathematics.
She attended University of Idaho for two years, and was on the Clean Snowmobile Team, and
part of Near Space Engineering – part of Idaho RISE, a high-altitude scientific balloon program.
She currently works at the Discovery Center of Idaho.
