January 1, 2017 - St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church


January 1, 2017
Today, we commemorate the
divine motherhood of the Blessed
Virgin Mary. It is a day when we
reflect on what it means for Mary
to be the mother of God.
Through the Holy Spirit, God the
Father prepared Mary to be the
dwelling place where His Son and
His Spirit could dwell among
men. Christ’s birth was made
possible by Mary’s fiat, or
sanctioning of God’s plan with
her words, “Be it done to me
according to thy word”. Calling
Mary “Mother of God” is the highest
honor we can give to her.

Vow of Non-Violence
Today - following the 11:30 am Mass
Since 1968, New Year’s Day has been designated by the Catholic Church as
World Peace Day. In keeping with this tradition, Pax Christi Saint Jude will be
offering the annual Vow of Nonviolence immediately following the 11:30 am
Mass. The vow, offered annually at our parish for the past eleven years, is a
one-year commitment to bring the peace and nonviolence of Jesus into our
hearts and dwelling places. A copy of the vow can be at
www.judeatl.com/vow-of-non-violence Pax Christi invites everyone to the
Stapleton Center for light refreshments immediately after taking the vow.
Nocturnal Adoration
Friday, January 6
We invite you to participate in vigil prayer in the Church when our
Nocturnal Adoration Society meets the first Friday of each month. If you
find Adoration deepens your personal relationship with God, you are
welcome to join one of our society’s teams. Each team prays for one hour
between the hours of 9:00 pm on Friday until 8:00 am on Saturday. The
9:00 pm hour is in Portuguese and the 10:00 pm hour is in Spanish. The
prayers for all of the other hours are in English. Each month, teams move
forward one hour. Each hour can have different readings and prayers. For
more information, please contact Glen Smith at
[email protected] or 404-661-6864.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Sundays - 10:00 am Mass
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (also known as CLOW) is a special way for
children to experience the Word of God in their own sacred space. It is
geared for children in K-3rd grades. Children are invited by the priest to be
dismissed to hear and reflect on the Word of God in language that is more
suited to their age. Adult and teen ministers read the Scripture, lead a
discussion on the readings and guide prayer intentions. We offer CLOW at the
10:00 am Mass during the school year. It resumes on Sunday, January 8.

Parishioner Verification
Parishioners often ask the pastor to
verify that they are an “active”

Confirmation
•Active parishioner tuition rates for
Catholic schools
•Marriage/Baptism preparation
•Enrolling children in PSR programs
•Scheduling of the facilities for
services such as Baptisms,

Parishioner verification is
accomplished by the pastor looking
equally at four criteria:
•Regular Mass attendance
•An up-to-date parish registration on
file
•Regular involvement in our parish

•Regular financial support of the

CONFESIONES: Martes: 6:30 pm a 7:00 pm
a tu propia conversión.

(Lc 1, 43). E os evangelistas, por
sua vez, não se envergonham de
referir-nos o que a respeito de
Cristo pensavam os nazarenos:
afinal, não era Maria sua mãe?
(cf. Mt 13, 55). Com efeito, a "mãe de Jesus" (cf. Jo 2, 1; 19, 25), como
carinhosamente lhe chama o discípulo a cujos cuidados seria confiada
Santíssima Trindade, o Filho eterno a quem o Pai, gerando-o desde
toda pura e sempre intacta.
Mão do Divino Mediador; mediadora,
( Padre Paulo Ricardo)
