Title of the Post: Academic Tutor (Part time) Location: SSR Manchester, 65-69 Downing Street, Manchester, M1 7JE Responsible to: Tutor Manager Responsible for: Effective planning and preparation of resources necessary for lesson delivery. Delivering course content in an effective and professional manner. Assessing student work and providing feedback to students. Supporting students through learning and assessment. Development of new programmes. Adhering to all SSR policies and procedures. Attending staff meetings. Main Contacts: Tutor Manager, Course Leaders, Tutors. Pay Scale: Freelance Tutor Grade Stage 2 (scaled) Hours of work: 10:00am – 6:00pm Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Delivery and Assessment of course: • Effective planning and delivery of lessons/curriculum • Preparation of course documentation and learning resources • Provision of lesson resources for students (and adherence to SSR procedures in storing and archiving these appropriately) • • • • • • • Provision of academic support for students where necessary Overseeing academic quality of final year (HE6) projects/dissertations and offering support/ mentoring Maintaining effective student records, including progress and attendance Assessment and moderation of student work Providing feedback on assessment to students Effective recording of student data regarding assessments Adherence to SSR procedures for assessment and moderation of student work Administrative duties: • To assist in developing and delivery of future HE7 programmes • To attend meetings for teaching staff • To assist admin staff with student attendance monitoring and retention • To assist with curriculum and course review strategies • To assist with documentation and reports pertaining to course delivery and reviews • To provide any necessary data to admin, marketing and teaching staff pertaining to course delivery. • To oversee effective population of VLE’s pertaining to course delivery • To help maintain effective student records and data • To liaise with Course Leaders to assist in academic aspects of course delivery • To help prepare material for external moderation of student work • To help prepare data for exam boards • To attend all staff meetings called by Senior Management • To operate within and conform to all company policies, procedures and targets, within a general expectation of courtesy, professionalism and promptness. This includes a particular expectation of actively promoting the company’s policies on equal opportunities, health and safety and quality assurance. To promote and pursue the corporate mission and business interests of the company and to contribute to the continued development of the department. Minimum Essential Requirements • • • • • • • • • • Qualification at Master’s level or above Specific experience within the creative industries, specifically audio Specific experience of teaching at UG degree level Excellent communicative skills – written, visual and oral Excellent organisational and administrative skills Experience of both Apple Mac and Microsoft Windows platforms, and the Microsoft Office environment Excellent numerate and literate skills The ability to work independently and as a member of a team, and to adapt to flexible working methods The ability to consistently work accurately with attention to detail Work calmly in a pressured environment and maintain confidentiality at all times Desirable Abilities • • • A recognised PG teaching qualification PhD, or intention to work towards this qualification Previous experience in a similar role No job description can be comprehensive or capable of providing for changes in educational demands or the policy environment.
