Dinosaurs September 26-30, 2016 1 Missing lids This week the Dinosaurs used their logistical reasoning skills as they played a game where they worked to match several different containers with their correct lids! Stella demonstrated a great deal of persistence as she worked to match the two items. The teachers found it interesting that Stella observed the lids separately and then divided them into a “big group” and a “small group” based on their size. She then examined the openings of the containers to see which pile of lids 2 she should try to find the correct lid within. She was so proud of herself once she had accomplished this challenging task and even encouraged other Dinosaurs to play! Does this person work at our school? This week we challenged the children to use their observational thinking skills ,as well as their memories, to figure out which of the two pictures the teachers had posted on a large piece of paper, was someone who worked at our school! After studying both of the pictures, the children had the opportunity to mark their vote underneath person they had chosen. We then tallied up the marks to see which picture received the most votes, which was a great way for the children to count with a one to one correspondence and practice using concepts related to amounts. 3 What is in the feely bag? The Dinosaurs had a surprise visitor this week! At one of our large group times, our school’s office manager, Ms. Jacinta, came to talk about what she does for the children, teachers and families at our school. She then played a game with the Dinosaurs that encouraged them to use their sense of touch to identify what items from her desk she had placed in a bag. Alexandra places her hand in the bag and uses her fingers to feel the details of items such as a phone, a paperclip, a stapler, a pen, a walkie talkie and even a laptop and then used her logistical reasoning skills to guess what it was she was feeling. 1010 Grandin Ave | Rockville, MD 20851 P: 301.424.8952 | [email protected] Important updates: On Monday, October 10th, Montgomery Child Care Park Street will be closed for our annual staff development day! 5
