—————————————I’ve always been one to appreciate multipurpose products,
especially single ingredient, organic products, like
cucumbers, that can be both consumed, and used to treat puffy
eyes. Another multiuse product that I have grown to love over
the last year is almond oil. Not only can it be used for
cooking, it is an amazing skin and hair care product, among
other things.
We have all been told to eat almonds as part of a well
balanced diet, as they are rich in fibre, protein and healthy
fats. If we eat healthy, we will begin to look healthy on the
outside. Like most women however, I am a firm believer in
good quality skin and hair care products to help improve and
enhance that healthy glow. For me, almond oil is the answer.
I start by using it to remove my eye makeup at night, then
apply it all over my face and neck and to any over exposed
areas of skin that are subject to the most damage from sun
and free radicals. I prefer to use it only at night as it
takes several minutes to fully absorb, however it can be used
as a daytime moisturizer and worn under makeup.
Initially I was sceptical using pure oil on my skin, thinking
that it would cause my pores to clog and my skin to break
out. However, I was completely blown away by the results. In
only a week or so I noticed that the fine lines and dark
circles around my eyes were less visible, and overall I had a
more even skin tone.
Plus, I have actually had fewer
breakouts since using almond oil regularly.
To use on ones hair, you must apply about a half an ounce from
scalp to hair ends, and massage. The oil should be kept in
for about 8 hours for best results, so I prefer to apply at
night, and wash it out in the morning. If you ever need to
stretch that hair appointment by another month, almond oil
will ensure minimal breakage between cuts.
Here is a breakdown of the best uses of Almond Oil.
Dietary Supplement: To ingest almond oil, you can try
supplementing it for other high heat (430 F) cooking oils like
coconut or vegetable oil. You can also eat it raw by using it
in salad dressings or try adding it to smoothies.
Moisturizer: As a body moisturizer, almond oil is high in
oleic acid and linoleic acid which replenishes the
intercellular structure of your skin.
Make-up remover: Because almond oil has a chemical formula
similar to the sebum produced by our skin, it can be used for
removing the makeup from the face, including the areas around
the eyes. Its vitamin D and vitamin E are also good for the
eyelashes.
Massage Oil: Almond Oil is a good source of vitamin D,
commonly known as the sunshine vitamin, and essential to
immune system health and muscle growth. It is the perfect oil
to mix with other aromatic oils to create a muscle and joint
pain relieving rubs.
Sore Muscle Remedy
Sweet Almond oil – 8 ounces
Black pepper – 12 drops
Marjoram – 6 drops
Juniper Berry – 6 drops
Ginger – 6 drops
Blend these oils together then use as massage oil. You only
need to use about a teaspoon or two for a nice massage!
Hair tonic: Almond oil is one of the most powerful natural
stimulants for growth and strengthening of the hair strands.
It feeds the roots, stimulates regeneration, and improves
hair’s elasticity and shine. To use almond oil on the hair,
simply put a few drops of oil on your fingertips and then
massage your scalp.
