What thought provoking art image did you select (which relates to your lesson topic)?
We selected Pablo Picasso's artwork for the emphasis of showing students what chalk art
is. An image we chose to represent an artist comes from Pablo Picasso, an artist who does a lot of
chalk art.
2.
-
What are your questions (for leading the discussion)?
What do you see?
-
Why do you think the way you do?
How does this relate to how people interpret the world around them?
Ask also about the viewpoint and the message the artist is trying to convey. Think about
and connect your students’ prior knowledge and experiences to the artwork they are
viewing.
3.
What will you share with the students about the image and artist?
-
Pablo Picasso is a Spanish born artist. As an artist and an innovator, he is responsible for
co-founding the entire Cubist movement. His technique for realism, so ingrained by his
father and his childhood studies, evolved with his introduction to symbolist influences.
Picasso found a model of how to distill the essential from nature in order to achieve a
cohesive surface that expressed the artist's singular vision. In about the same time, the
aesthetics of traditional African sculpture became a powerful influence among European
artists. His career spanned over a 78 year period, in which he created: 13,500 paintings,
100,000 prints and engravings, and 34,000 illustrations.
