The Apostles’ Creed is a prayer that states what members of the Catholic Church believe. 3. Name and describe the 3 parts of the Apostles’ Creed. 1. God the Father, the Creator 2. God the Son, the Redeemer 3. The Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier 4. What is a psalm? A psalm is a prayer in the form of a poem or song that is used to praise God. 5. Why did God create all things? Because of His love. 6. Why must we make God an important part of our lives? Because He created us and because He loves us. 7. What does the beauty in our world help us to do? To know God and to love God because God is present in everything in He has made. Session 2 8. Why do we pray the Sign of the Cross? Praying the Sign of the Cross is a way of remembering the Trinity. 9. Who are the 3 Persons in the Trinity? God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. 10. What does the Holy Spirit do? The Holy Spirit helps us to understand how much God loves us and how to love others. 11. What do the Sign of the Cross, the Glory Be and the Apostle’s Creed have in common? They praise God the Trinity. 12. Who is the source of the love that we have for one another? The Trinity. Session 3 13. What does the word “reveal” mean? Making known what was not known before. 14. What prayer did Jesus give us so that we could speak to God? The Lord’s Prayer (or The Our Father) September 2016 1 15. Why does God want us to call Him Father? God wants us to know that He loves us, cares for us, answers our prayers and forgives us, like any good father would. 16. In the Our Father what does the word “hallowed” mean? Holy 17. In the Our Father what are “trespasses”? Trespasses are things we do that hurt others; things that are wrong to do. 18. What does forgive mean? To be kind to people who have hurt us and to let go of the hurt. Session 4 19. What did the angel tell Joseph? That Mary would have a baby thru the Holy Spirit. 20. What does the name Jesus mean? God saves us. 21. What does the name Emmanuel mean? God with us. 22. What are the Scriptures? The Scriptures are the holy writings about God and Jesus in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. 23. Why did God our Father send His Son to us? To save us, to teach us, and to be with us. Session 5 24. What are the five main seasons of the Church and what color is associated with each? Advent -‐ purple, Christmas -‐ white, Ordinary Time – green, Lent -‐ purple, Easter -‐ white. 25. When do we celebrate Ordinary Time? After Christmas until Ash Wednesday and then after Pentecost until Advent. Session 6 26. What is a religious community? A group of men or women who live, work, and pray together to serve God and others. 27. What is a parable? A simple story used by Jesus in the Gospels to explain a difficult idea or lesson. 28. What is the Kingdom of God? The Kingdom of God is accepting God as our King and seeing ourselves as His people. We experience the Kingdom of God here on earth in the Eucharist. 29. When will we experience the fullness of the Kingdom of God? When we get to Heaven. 30. What did Jesus do to show us how to serve the Kingdom of God? The Paschal Mystery is how Jesus saved us through His life, Death, Resurrection. 46. How are we saved? Through Jesus’ Death and Resurrection. 47. Why do we call Jesus “Lord?” Because Jesus is God. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas Day and ends at Christmas Mass. 50. How were Mary and Joseph faithful to God? Mary agreed to become the mother of Jesus. Joseph agreed to marry Mary and become the foster father of Jesus. 51. What is the color of the priest’s vestments and alter cloth during Advent? Purple Session 11 52. What is a disciple? A follower of Jesus. 53. Describe what happened at Pentecost. The Holy Spirit came down upon the Mary and disciples with strong wind and tongues of fire. 54.
