English
Digital literacy this term will focus on phone/app/internet safety and respectful use. Class 4 will examine the dangers of abusive messaging and share
the consequences with younger children. We will also focus on presentation
and the use of various processing programs. Coding will focus on Scratch and

Music in Autumn will be focussed around the Pop movement of the 20th Century. We will

English this term will link with the history and geography of our main topic
of the USA. We will focus primarily on the novel of The Sign of the Beaver
which is set in early America during the conflict between Native Americans
and settlers. The novel links with the National Curriculum objective of looking at stories from other cultures. Children will also look at autobiographical and biographical writing by exploring the history of Rosa Parks, Martin
Luther King and other important figures in American history. Children will
explore poetry through a survivalist’s eyes and focus on finding a poetic
voice.
PE
To link with the theme of survival from our novel The Sign of the Beaver,
our topic in PE will be OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities). This means
that we will be looking at maps, mapping areas of the school and finding
clues. We will also explore geocaching!
MFL
Initially, we will revisit the basic classroom commands, rules and instructions in French. The topic for the term will be titled ‘Les Planetes’ and will
link carefully with our science/creative curriculum topics of the USA and
space.

ART/DT
Geography
Mrs Barber will deliver a series of lessons which focus on the great American artists of the 21st Century. The class will study and record their opinions on various artists including Andy Warhol, Grant Wood and Roy Lichtenstein. Children will reproduce pop art designs by printing their own designs symbolising modern American icons and then add colour. Class 4 will
also work on producing work to match the styles of the above artists.
Geographically, the United States of America are a fascinating place. In
Class 4, we will be exploring the location of the USA, the size, varying climates and landscapes. In particular, we will complete some case studies of
the rivers and mountains of the country as well as some of the national
parks. We will be working alongside the tourist board for the United States
to create some new promotional material for potential visitors.
The main focus in Maths this term will be to ensure that children are secure with their number knowledge by revisiting Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. We will incorporate a great deal of
problem solving and reasoning into our number work as well as close topic
links. Children will use up to 7 digit numbers with regards to assessing statistics in US states, complete calculations using money by booking US holidays and work on some distances involving Space. We will also be exploring circles, angles, area and perimeter.
Science
In Science this term, we will be closely examining Space. The scientific enquiry element of our topic will focus on the movement of the Earth around
the Sun. We will be exploring the rotations, angles and how days work—
this will create some great Maths links too! As well as the real scientific
content of this topic, we will also take a look at the role of the USA in the
moon landings.

Our topic for this term in Jigsaw will be “Being Me in My World”. We will explore
the voices that children have within the home, the school and the wider world. We
