WHO IS NACEL?
In 1957 two language teachers from France began organizing summer sessions in England
and Germany for French students. Their goal was to provide opportunities for students to
extend language learning and knowledge of another culture through a well-organized and
affordable summer program. The growth of Nacel over the past 60 years throughout Europe,
the America’s, Canada and Australia has seen millions of young adventurers give themselves
a cultural and career advantage.
Nacel derives its name from the French word “nacelle,” which is the basket of a hot air
balloon as displayed in our logo. Like the balloon explorers of long ago, our participants
have a spirit of adventure, are eager to learn about others, and are open to discovering the
value of cultural diversity. We want you to ‘Go & Live’ the experience!
WHAT WE DO
THE FUN STUFF
Nacel Australia offers both short & long term programs to France
in order for students to capitalise on and ‘live’ their language skills.
The opportunity to realise the benefits of interacting in another
culture on a personal level and the amount of doors potentially
opened and mutual respect that this offers is truly unique. This level
of understanding is garnered through exposure to and practise
of, the language and the willingness to make mistakes with it!
Discover Paris Tour (optional)
WHAT WE OFFER
The Discover Paris tour includes entrance fees, accommodation,
transfers, meals, Nacel Australia chaperones and Nacel France
guides.
Short Term – 4, 6, 8 or 10 week programs
Each November & December students from around Australia
head to France during our summer holidays to experience a
life changing journey. You will be matched with a volunteer
host family in France and be welcomed into their home as
one of the family. There is no better or more comfortable way
to experiment and try out your conversational skills than within
the safety and acceptance of a family environment. You will
participate in school with your host brothers / sisters and enjoy
the traditions and spectacle of Christmas and NYE in France.
Long Term – Term, Semester or Academic Year
In January, August or November each year, young Australians
have the opportunity to commit to a longer stay in France to
immerse themselves in the language and lifestyle. Selection
for this program is based on an interview of the applicant to
ensure you understand the benefits and challenges of being
in another country for an extended period of time. The extra
time submersed in the language only serves to increase your
confidence and vocabulary that much more.
Nacel Australia offers the option of the Discover Paris tour at
the end of your program. What better way to ‘celebrate’ your
language confidence than in Paris as you visit major attractions
such as; Versailles, Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur, Musee Du Louvre,
Arc de Triomphe, Centre Pompidou, Montmartre and of course
Champs Elysees and more.
WHO GETS TO GO?
Students are welcome to apply online at Nacel.com.au if you
and your family feel confident that you can satisfy the following
criteria;
• Aged 14 to 18 years old
• Short Term programs – 1 year high school language study
• Long Term programs – 2 years high school language study
• An open and flexible attitude to integrating into a new family
and school
• A strong interest in learning about and participating in French
culture
• A level of maturity to accept an immersion program and
contribute in the home and community at large
• An understanding that the level of improvement in your
language skills and cultural awareness is largely based on
your motivation to involve yourself at every opportunity
WHY GO?
WHO’S GOT MY BACK?
Nacel Australia traditionally conducts linguistic and cultural
programs to accelerate the students’ language skills and
develop their cultural awareness. They are immersion programs
in that we generally place one student per host family and per
school that in turn compels the student to communicate, eat,
sleep, and dream in the language of their studies with other
young Australians and Nacel Australia chaperones in France.
We’re glad you asked… On most international flights there will be a
Nacel Australia chaperone that travels with the group and remains
in France for the program and then returns with the group. This team
of Nacel Australia chaperones are all contactable through the
program for any level of support. Our huge team of Nacel France
will meet students on arrival and travel together with you to your
host family to be ‘hand delivered’! The same will happen for your
departure. Whilst you are with your host family, local Nacel France
coordinators will maintain contact with the host family to ensure you
have settled in. These coordinators arranged the interview with the
host family and confirmed your school attendance. You and your
family also have access to monitored 24/7 telephone services, both
in Australia and in France.
English only speakers will face increasing competition for positions
in the global marketplace against multilingual applicants with
approximately 94% of the world’s population, or about 6.15
billion people, currently speak a language other than English. In
Australia more than 200 different languages are spoken; 16% of
our population speaks a language other than English at home.
DO I HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL??
In short, yep you do! The high school experience in France is
unique and quite a contrast to Australia. The short term programs
are non-academic so you are not expected to sit exams or
submit assignments however you are expected to attend and
participate in school life with your host brothers / sisters.
You will become sought after leading up to English exam time…
The feedback from returned students is that the Australians are
very popular and integrate well into the school experience.

Program Fee Details
Applications received after the closing date are subject to
availability of places. Confirmation of applications will be
notified once all documents have been received by Nacel
Australia.
International flights booked by Nacel Australia depart and
arrive into Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth
only. Travel to / from these capital cities is at the applicants
own expense. All program fees are inclusive of any GST and
listed in AUD.
All long term program applicants have the option of booking
their own international flights and stopover meet & greet service
or have Nacel Australia make the necessary arrangements with
these additional costs added to the program fee. Any flight
arranged by the applicant must adhere to the program dates
listed, alternate dates will be subject to an administration fee.
