An Admissions application is enclosed in this publication, or apply online by logging onto www.hccc.edu/apply The High School Special Admissions Program offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to enroll at HCCC in credit courses, when recommended by the student’s parents, guidance counselor, principal, and approved by HCCC. Students may enroll for a maximum of two courses each semester. All students are required to take the College Placement Test, and HCCC reserves the right to place students according to their test scores. For further information, please review with www.hccc.edu/leap or contact LEAP Office (201) 360-5331 The application form will NOT be processed until it is complete; send the completed application with a non-refundable $25.00 application fee, made payable to Hudson County Community College, in the form of a personal check, money order, or credit card. All documentation must be sent to the Office of Enrollment Services, 70 Sip Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306. The application will not be considered complete without all necessary documents and fees. For more information please visit www.hccc.edu/admissions. BEFORE REGISTERING FOR COURSES, A STUDENT MUST: Take the College Placement Test (CPT), or meet exemption criteria as stated on www.hccc.edu/testing. Also see Transfer and Visiting Students. International Students Transfer Students Transfer students must provide an official transcript to have credit applied towards their chosen program. Depending on the time available, an unofficial transcript may be accepted for preliminary purposes, namely to ensure a student has met prerequisite requirements and to determine if they may be exempt from having to take the HCCC College Placement Test (CPT). Students that are permitted to register using an unofficial transcript must have their official transcript evaluated prior to being permitted to register for the following semester. It is recommended that students attempt to obtain an official transcript in a sealed and unopened envelope, and present the official transcript at time of application to HCCC. For more information please visit: www.hccc.edu/transfer Foreign persons interested in obtaining a Form I-20 from HCCC must submit additional information as required by the US Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP). Visa processing times currently range from 1-3 months; therefore, we have established the following deadlines: Visiting Students DEADLINE FOR STUDENTS FILING FOR F-1 VISA STATUS: FALL Students outside the U.S. First business day in June SEMESTER F-1 Transfer students only First business day in July SPRING Students outside the U.S. First business day in October SEMESTER F-1 Transfer students only First business day in November Please contact [email protected] for specific admissions requirements or visit www.hccc.edu/internationalstudents for more information. If you do not supply all requested information by the deadline dates, we may not have sufficient time to process your Form I-20 for you to take to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate. Upon successful completion of all the admissions requirements, you will receive a letter of acceptance, your Form I-20, and information about your registering for classes. Visiting students from other institutions, seeking to enroll short-term, are permitted to enroll as Non-Matriculating students. In most instances visiting students should provide a “Permission Letter” from their home institution stipulating the course offered at HCCC that they are allowing the student to take. With such a document the need for a transcript is not necessary. The process above ensures that the home institution will accept the credits from HCCC, thereby providing an element of academic security to the student. Many home institutions may not accept the credit, as a result of the students not seeking such permission, or a leave of absence if matriculated. Visiting Students who are unable to obtain a “Permission Letter” should follow the procedures for Transfer Students. Fieldtrips, special events, and special projects are integrated to enhance the students’ learning experience. Learning Communities are available for day and evening students; college level students; English as a Second Language (ESL) students; and Academic Foundations students. Official withdrawal forms must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. The add/drop fee is $15.00 per occurrence. Financial aid recipients should note that withdrawing from classes might affect their financial aid award. Online and hybrid courses are offered throughout the academic year in accelerated 7-week sessions and traditional 15-week sessions. The tuition and fees for a course are the same for online or in-person classes, and financial aid is available. In online courses, designated as sections ONA, ONB, or ONR in the catalog, instruction takes place entirely on the internet (via Hudson Online) and no face-to-face classroom instruction is required. In hybrid courses, designated as sections HYA, HYB, or HYR in the catalog, there is a combination of required face-to-face time in a classroom or laboratory with at least 50% online instruction. Hudson Online courses count toward your degree, are equivalent to on-campus courses and are taught by HCCC faculty. The College does not currently offer fully online associate degrees or certificate programs; however, up to half of the credits for your HCCC degree can be fulfilled by online courses, and there is no limit to the number of hybrid courses.
