PRESIDENCY OF THE
SECURITY COUNCIL
NONPROLIFERATION
AND
DISARMAMENT
▶ We will push
through a revision
of the current
United Nations
system of nonproliferation
to tackle new
challenges such as
weapons of mass
destruction falling
into the hands of
terrorist groups.

Spain heads up the United Nations Security Council for the
second time in its two-year membership 2015-2016.
This will be the finishing touch on two years in which our
country has achieved greater international visibility, making
great strides in preventive diplomacy; humanitarian assistance;
the Women, Peace and Security agenda; and the recognition
of victims of terrorism.

LIBYA
▶We will continue
working to
contribute to the
application of the
agreement from
December 2015
and we will renew
the mandate of
the United Nations
Support Mission in
Libya (UNSMIL).
PEOPLE
TRAFFICKING
SYRIA

▶We will facilitate
a debate on people
trafficking in situations
of conflict, from
different perspectives
including sexual violence
perpetrated against
women and girls.

TERRORISM
▶We will organise a meeting
on judicial cooperation in the
fight against terrorism based
on the documents approved
at the meeting in Madrid in
2015 and the 2010 CounterTerrorism Guide.
▶We will strengthen our
commitment to resolving
conflicts in line with
Resolutions 2258 (provision of
humanitarian assistance) and
2286 (protection of health and
humanitarian personnel).
