III. WWI was a total war
A. Two front war –
• Western – Northern France. Battle of Somme
7/11/16 GB gained 5 mile victory- 500,000
casualties
• Eastern – Russia had problems with continued
shortage of food, guns, clothes. Russia was not
industrialized, their only source of power are
soldiers. Lost 2 million soldiers
B. Beyond Europe- War spread to Africa, Southwest
and South East Asia. US entered the war.
C. Home front – all civilians were affected.
