14 Passenger Shuttle Bus Starting the Shuttle Bus To start: cycle the key to the “on” position. You will notice an indicator light on the left side of the dashboard that looks like this. Once this light has gone out the glow plugs are warmed up and the engine may be started. Fueling the Shuttle Bus The Shuttle Bus uses diesel fuel only. Use the green cap labeled “Diesel Fuel Only” found on the left or driver’s side of the vehicle to fill up. Diesel Fuel filler Cap Diesel Exhaust Fluid The Shuttle Bus also uses DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). Diesel Exhaust Fluid is a nonhazardous solution, which is 32.5% urea and 67.5% de-ionized water. DEF is sprayed into the exhaust stream of diesel vehicles to break down dangerous NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water. Under normal circumstances you will likely never have to worry about filling the Shuttle Bus with DEF fluid as it uses about 2 gallons of DEF for every 100 gallons of diesel fuel used. This is the DEF fluid low indicator light found on the dashboard. If light comes on add more DEF fluid or contact Transportation Services/Vehicle Repair for assistance. If the DEF fluid is too low or of poor quality a message will also appear on the dashboard and the vehicle will be put into limp mode and the vehicle will not go over 55 MPH. If not addressed, the vehicle will remain in limp mode and not go over 5 MPH on the next start up. Side Door Operation The Shuttle Bus side door can be operated by either the switch labeled “DOOR” found inside the vehicle on the overhead control panel or on the exterior by inserting a key into the port found to the left of the side door. There is also a manual override in case of a power failure. It can be found inside the vehicle on the floor by the side door. Emergency Exits Egress Windows: Contoured egress windows (emergency exits) can be opened by pulling the red release handles on each side of the egress windows outward from the window frame and push out on the window; the window will swing outward. Back-Up Alarm This vehicle is equipped with an audible back-up alarm that sounds when the vehicle is put into reverse. Tire Pressure/Spare Tire
