[Sydney, 9 February 2017] Art-loving sweethearts planning a romantic Valentine’s Day on
Tuesday 14 February can enjoy contemporary art in many ways at the Museum of
Contemporary Art Australia (MCA), with the global social media campaign #HeartsforArt.
Throughout the day visitors are encouraged to lay down their love for a favourite artwork with
a selfie tagged #HeartsforArt. They can experience MCA Collection: Today Tomorrow Yesterday
in a different light, with a special performance in the Level 2 Galleries and a nudist tour lead by
artist Stuart Ringholt. For one day only, they can also visit our Sydney International Art Series
exhibition Tatsuo Miyajima: Connect with Everything, with a special 2-for-1 online offer.
And with many experiences for all appetites, a contemporary art rendez-vous would not
complete without a stop at the MCA Café: when purchasing any two Classic Drinks, visitors will
receive a Deep Fried Ginger Ice-cream with Mango & Shaved Coconut with MCA compliments.
MCA Director, Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE said: ‘Meeting friends or loved ones at the MCA is
a great way celebrate Valentine’s Day! A visit to the MCA is an engaging social experience,
where you can share your love of contemporary art. And you can share it more widely by
posting a photo of your favourite moment in the MCA. Our Valentine’s Day #HeartsforArt
initiative encourages our visitors to share their love of contemporary art and contribute to a
global social media campaign’.

2-for-1 tickets: Tatsuo Miyajima: Connect with Everything
For those planning a trip to the Museum on 14 February, book ahead and online to see the work of one of Japan’s
most renowned contemporary artists. A special two-for-one offer is available for Valentine’s Day so friends, lovers,
colleagues can immerse themselves in room-scale installations incorporating light and numbers, as part of the Sydney
International Art Series. The offer is available online only, and can only be redeemed on 14 February 2017.
For the love of art: Take a naturist tour with Stuart Ringholt
Gain a new perspective of the MCA Collection: Today Tomorrow Yesterday by viewing it nude, after-hours from 7–
9.30pm. The material barriers between artist and audience are removed when artist Stuart Ringholt takes visitors on
an after-hours naturist tour followed by a reception. The artwork deals with themes of fear and embarrassment and
the potentially liberating effects of enjoying art in the nude. Tickets are available online at $25 General Admission and
$20 Concession and Members. It’s 18+ only, with a changing area available.
For sweet-toothed sweethearts: MCA Cafe Special Offer
For sweet-toothed sweethearts, the date continues at the MCA Cafe on Level 4 with a Valentine’s Day offer
accompanied by show stopping summer views. Order any 2 Classic Drinks – a Campari & Grapefruit Spritzer ($14), a
Hendricks Gin & Tonic with Cucumber ($14), a Belvedere Bloody Mary with the Works ($14) or a Pimms Classic
Lemonade and Fruit Cocktail ($14) – and receive a Deep Fried Ginger Ice-cream with Mango & Shaved Coconut to
share with love from the MCA. The offer is only available on 14 February.
For the love of art: Experience Marco Fusinato’s Parallel Collisions (2008/2016)
Don’t miss a free drop-in performance of Marco Fusinato’s Parallel Collisions (2008/2016) on 14 February at 12 noon.
The work consists of images of conflict and altered states – then it’s interpreted by a group of musicians who
introduce subjectivity to each performance as they respond to the image. The collages (aka scores) are thrown to the
ground after each page is interpreted, the sound and action function as a parallel collision; they lie on the floor as the
residue of a past performance.
Go global: #HeartsforArt
Visitors will also have the opportunity to declare their love for their favourite artwork by participating in a global
social media campaign called #heartsforart. The idea stems from the simple gesture of placing a paper heart on the
ground in front of the artworks that a visitor loves the most. Current MCA exhibitions – Tatsuo Miyajima: Connect
with Everything, Primavera at 25: MCA Collection and also the MCA Collection – will provide visitors with some of the
best Australian and international contemporary art to appreciate.
All participants are encouraged to then share their experience on social media via the hashtag #HeartsforArt, joining
a global conversation amongst art aficionados from around the world. International counterparts who have
participated in the campaign include the prestigious Vincent Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Brooklyn
Museum in New York or the Baltimore Museum of Art, USA. The MCA will share and repost some of the highlight
moments on the day.
