Elemental Racial Variants M any racial variants have been created through the years. These are a few that were left behind in earlier editions, modified for 5th edition. Inside you will find variants for the elf, halfling, dragonborn, and genasi Frost elf Frost elves live in frozen wastelands and high mountain peaks. They are gaunt and pale, with a tinge of blue on their extremities. Their eyes are a pale blue or gray, and their hair is long and white. Frost Elf Subrace Traits The frost elf subrace has the elf traits in the Player's Handbook, plus the subrace traits below. Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1. Cold Resistance. You have resistance to cold damage. Frost Elf Weapon Training. You have proficiency with javelins, spears, shortbows, and longbows. Furchin Also known as polar halflings, furchins live in frozen wastelands and high mountain peaks. Furchins stand out from other halflings due to the full, thick beard all males have. This beard often reaches to the waist of an adult furchin. They tend to have pale skin and dark eyes. Furchin Subrace Traits The furchin subrace has the halfling traits in the Player's Handbook, plus the subrace traits below. Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1. Cold Resistance. You have resistance to cold damage. Green-eyed Children While most furchin have dark colored eyes, some are born with green eyes. These green eyed furchin are believed to be special emissaries of the gods. They are raised to the status of nobility, and given special privileges. Shadow Dragonborn Like shadow dragons, shadow dragonborn are dragonborn who were either born in the Shadowfell or were transformed by years spent within its dismal confines. This transformation can take several years, during which time the dragonborn’s scales lose their luster and fade to a charcoal hue as its eyes pale to pools of opalescent gray. Even a return to the Material Plane cannot undo this transformation. Shadow Dragonborn Subrace Traits The shadow dragonborn subrace has the dragonborn traits in the Player's Handbook, plus the subrace trait below. Shadow Corruption. The influence of the Shadowfell has taken over your Draconic Ancestry trait. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are now necrotic. Storm Genasi As a storm genasi, you are descended from the charismatic Jann. You are as temperamental as an air genasi and as romantic as a water genasi. Though their moods and interests tend to flit around, they take each and every interaction to heart. Invoking the wrath of a storm genasi can have devastating, long-lasting consequences. Storm genasi have light purple skin and silver hair and eyes. They often speak in deep, booming voices. It's not uncommon for storm genasi to accidentally transmit a shock when they come into physical contact with someone. Storm Genasi Subrace Traits The storm genasi subrace has the genasi traits in the Elemental Evil handbook, plus the subrace traits below. Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1. Lightning Resistance. You have resistance to lightning damage. Rolling Storm. You know the thunderclap cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the fog cloud spell as a 2ndlevel spell once with this trait, and you regain the ability to cast it this way when you finish a long rest. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
