The Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute (SORI) was established in 2002 by Dr David Parker and Dr Myles Coolican. Recently, Dr Brett Fritsch has joined SORI as a director and board member. Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the enhancement of knowledge and treatment of orthopaedic disorders through high quality research. Drs Parker, Coolican and Fritsch are knee specialists and accordingly there is a particular focus on disorders of the knee joint in our research. Our surgeons work at Royal North Shore Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred, which are teaching hospitals of the University of Sydney. SORI undertakes research in both basic science and clinical studies. Some projects are run in collaboration with other research groups including universities, hospitals and medical imaging facilities. Our Mission o SORI’s mission is to provide patients and clinicians with improved methods of diagnosis and treatment to restore function to knees affected by injury and disease. o We aim to be recognised nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence in the treatment and prevention of knee disorders, through innovative and quality programs in areas of research, education, professional training and community service. o Research plays an important part in determining the techniques and procedures that Drs Coolican, Parker and Fritsch use in knee surgery thereby ensuring the best possible outcome for the patient. o Numerous gaps remain in the current body of knowledge about how best to identify patients at risk of poor outcomes and optimise recovery. By underpinning our efforts with objective measures of knee structure and function using the latest technologies, our ultimate aim is to prevent injuries and degeneration of the knee within the wider community. o More information can be found at our website: www.sori.org.au o Your support will help to ensure that this important medical research continues. o All donations over $2 to SORI, a registered charity, are tax deductible.
