Message from Tammy Steckbauer (Principal)
The 2017 annual Decade Dance & PTO Basket Raffle is fast approaching and will be held on Friday,
February 17, 2017, from 6:30-8:30 pm in our Rib gym. Mr. Josh Dewey will once again D.J. the
event, and we expect a wonderful time to be had by all!
This event is free of charge, so we hope you’ll attend and spend your dollars buying raffle tickets for a
chance at one of the AMAZING basket raffles that will be offered. If you’ve never attended this event,
you’re missing out on an opportunity to have a great time and to win some phenomenal prizes. All
proceeds from ticket sales benefit your child and our school through P.T.O. sponsored events and
programs.
Doors will open starting at 6:15 and the dance will begin at 6:30. All students MUST attend with an
adult chaperone. It is not permissible to drop off children at the dance and leave school grounds.
The dance will conclude at 8:30 or as soon as winners are announced for the basket raffle.
To ensure that everyone enjoys this event in a safe manner, we have some expectations we will need
all students to follow. All school rules apply at any school event, and these additional expectations will
need to be followed as well:
DECADE DANCE EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL STUDENTS
 Attend the dance with an adult chaperone.
 Be in the gym dancing unless purchasing tickets and visiting the basket raffle.
 Walking is the expectation.
 Take care of your own garbage from your snacks.
 Respect the adult supervisors at the dance.
 Remain INSIDE the school building at all times.
Students will receive a paper copy of these expectations and be asked to sign and return the
agreement like the one below. Thank you in advance for making the Decade Dance a huge success!
****************************************************************************************************
*I have read and understand the expectations for the 2017 Decade Dance.
*I will bring this signed note to the dance and receive a complimentary snack.
*All students who return their expectation sheet will have their name entered into a drawing
for a chance to win a prize.

CHAPPED LIPS ARE THE PITS!
Winter time means our lips are exposed to the elements of cold, wind and sun. Our lips do not have oil glands to
keep them soft and moist, or sun-protecting melanin. We need to take some steps to avoid chapped lips:




Avoid “Lip Licking”. You may feel some relief at first, but as soon as your saliva evaporates, it will make your
lips drier than before. Saliva contains digestive enzymes that will dry out your lips.
Use a lip balm. Not just any lip balm, however. Medicated lip balm (that contain phenol or camphor) are for
pain relief, but the downside is they cause your lips to dry out even more. Also avoid yummy tasting lip
balms. They may tempt you to lick your lips. This is especially true for young children.
Petrolatum Jelly--inexpensive and it works! Sometimes fancy isn’t always better. Lip balms formulated
with petrolatum or lanolin work best, or just plain old petroleum jelly. Apply before bed and to other dry
areas as well.
Hydrate from the inside out. Drink 8 glasses of water per day. It will not necessarily prevent dry lips, but it
will help it from getting worse. Plus, the more water you drink, the better you feel!
