(puppets appear)
Allan:
Hey, Stephen and Sally. What have you been up to lately? Staying out of trouble?
Sally:
I have been learning how to play tennis with my friend down the street and her
mom. It's been really fun.
Allan:
That's great, Sally. You know, I played tennis in high school and I was pretty good.
Sally:
Yeah, but now I bet I could beat you.
Allan:
(laughs) We'll have to see about that. What about you, Stephen. How are you?
Stephen:
Not so good.
Allan:
What's the matter?
Stephen:
My soccer team has been losing all our games.
Sally:
Aww, I'm sorry, Stephen.
Stephen:
Yeah. Last year, we won every game and we were really good. But something just
isn't working this season and we've lost every game so far.
Sally:
Well, maybe your team will let it challenge you to be better and try harder.
Stephen:
Maybe. But I think I'm just gonna quit 'cause I hate losing.
Allan:
Wait a minute, Stephen. Remember that even though you love soccer and you want
to do your best, it is still a game where you're supposed to have fun and enjoy it.
Stephen:
Yeah, but it's no fun losing all the time.
Sally:
Right. Nobody likes to lose. But you still get to play. And being part of the team and
actually playing is what it's really about.
Allan:
Sally's right. You know that saying in life: you win some, you lose some. No big deal.
Stephen:
Easy for you to say, pastor Allan. You probably win at everything.
Allan:
No way, Stephen. I lose alot. The important thing is that I keep going and don't quit.
Same thing for you. Be glad you get to play.
Sally:
And since we're at Kingdom Kids, I'll bet there's a Bible verse that talks about this.
Allan:
There sure is. 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's
will for you in Christ Jesus.
Stephen:
Hmm ... so even when I lose, I should be thankful?
Sally:
I think that's what it says. To be thankful is what God wants for us, right pastor Allan?
Allan:
Right, you two. No matter what happens - in all circumstances, good times and bad God wants us to give thanks to Him. It's His will for us.
Sally:
I need to remember that.
Stephen:
Me, too.
Allan:
Sing this song with me and it will help you remember.
Sally:
That's a pretty catchy tune. I think I can remember that verse now.
Stephen:
Yeah. And I think it will help my attitude be better about getting to play. Whether we
win, or not - I'm glad God gave me the chance to play something fun that I love.
Sally:
Pastor Allan, you're gonna need to remember that verse, too, when you lose.
Allan:
When I lose at what, Sally?
Sally:
When you lose to me at tennis!
Puppets say "bye" and disappear.
(all sing the verse song)
