together to celebrate International
Credit Union Day and this year’s
theme: Local. Trusted. Serving you.
Do you remember why you chose
Media Members FCU to be your

credit unions, but it most likely has
something to do with the common
philosophy of people helping
people.
Unlike most other financial institutions, credit unions are not-for-profit,
democratically controlled, volunteer-run, member-owned cooperatives.
They exist to serve their members, and that level of service remains
high even during the toughest times. Instead of issuing stock or paying
dividends to outside shareholders, credit unions provide value to their
members by returning earnings in the form of lower loan rates, higher
interest on deposits, and lower or even no transaction fees.
This year’s theme celebrates the advantages of credit union
membership. Value, trust and service are just some of the many benefits
of being a credit union member. You are in charge of your money and your
credit union.

members around the world to celebrate International Credit Union Day in

As has been our custom in the past, Media Members will celebrate
International Credit Union Day at both the Center City and SPP office.
Everyone who stops by will receive a free gift and soft pretzel while
supplies last. In addition, we will hold several drawings throughout the day
which will give you a chance to win a great prize. Our Philadelphia office will
be open from 9:00 A.M to 4:30 P.M. and our SPP office will be open from
8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Planning a Trip
Outside of the
United States?
Please be sure to let your
credit know of your destination
when planning a trip outside of
the United States. Your debit and
credit cards need to be activated
by the credit union if you are using
them in a foreign country. Just call
us at 215-854-4460 at least three
days before your departure. Also
be sure to let us know when you
return so we can deactivate your
foreign usage.

Please be sure to notify
the credit union at least
once each year to advise us
to keep your account from
dormancy status. There is a
$5 per month fee for accounts
under $500 with no activity
for 12 or more months. Also,
be advised that Pennsylvania
Law considers an account to
be dormant and turned over
to the state if there has been
no activity for three years.
In order to avoid dormancy
fees or Pa. Escheat, please
deposit, withdrawal or notify
your credit union in writing
or email to label accounts as
active.
If you are heading out car
shopping between now and the end
of the year, these last few weeks can
be a great time to get car deals.
Automakers and dealers are always
anxious to boost their total annual
sales.
Dealer incentives can be
deducted from the purchase price
if the customer knows to ask.
Vehicle information web sites like
Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds.
com offer a model-by-model list of
what incentives are being offered
to dealers as well as manufacturer
rebates for consumers.
Wondering when to buy? Avoid
the weekend for the best car deals,
according to research by TrueCar,
a new-car pricing web site that lists
actual sale prices for specific models
in the shopper’s geographic area.
TrueCar’s analysis states that the days
leading up to December 25th and the
week between Christmas and New
Year’s Day are the best days of the
year to shop when you can expect to
save the most money.
