he will not let you be tempted beyond wha

Reflection:
No temptation has overtaken you except what is
common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will
not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted, he will also provide a
way out so that you can endure it.
Questions:
1.
Are you a fan of the Summer Olympics? What’s your favorite event? What’s your
least favorite?
2.
Can you think of a temptation that is now manageable but used to feel as if it
weighed 582 pounds? What was it? How were you able to overpower it?
3.
Can you think of a temptation that many others struggle with but you think
you’re immune from? What makes you think that?
4.
As you consider your “heaviest” temptation right now, is there a form of idolatry
attached to it? Is there someone or something in your life that you are placing
above God?
5.
Do you believe the encouraging promise of 1 Corinthians 10:13? How might
these words affect you this week?
-1 Corinthians 10:13
This week’s verse is terrific encouragement regarding temptation,
but it is surrounded by some aggressive challenges. Challenge #1
(verse 12) is “Don’t get cocky!” Don’t think that you’re immune to the
power of temptation. Challenge #2 (verse 14) is “Flee from idolatry!”
Don’t let anything become more important in your life than your
relationship with God. In the middle of these two challenges is the
encouragement (verse 13): we will not be tempted beyond what we
can bear. Whew, that’s a relief!
