FORMED
Mrs Conabeer is teaching a group of
keen musicians to play the recorder. The
group, after only three weeks of instruc­
tion have performed in a whole School
Assembly. Considering they have only
been learning for a short time they per­
formed really well and to the delight of
the audience—Well done!

The Easter Bonnet Parade
The whole school is having an Easter Bon­
net Parade on March 24th at 2.00 pm in
the gym hall. All parents are welcome to
come. The children can also wear their
non­uniform clothes, but have to pay £1.
This money will go towards school funds.
Jamie Laurenson P7 The children at Hamnavoe School are fortunate in having the chance to get weekly musical tuition on a variety of instruments. Below
the pupils have written down their own
thoughts:After Easter all the pupils that play an instrument in Pri­ maries 5, 6 and 7 are going to put on a performance for all the parents and the rest of the family. This will take place some time in April. The pupils that are taking part are:­ Tuba—Callen and Kieran, Fiddle—Shannon, Mhari­ anne, Stacey, Sana, Beth. Recorder—P5. Clarinet— Dana, Fraser. Piano—Erin, Ruth and Alyssa. Erin Gibson P7 We have been playing fiddle since primary five. We have learned many tunes. We play Little Donkey and many other songs as a group and sometimes we do duets. We are getting on good at fiddle and we all enjoy play­ ing. Stacey Sherwood, Shannon Jamieson, Beth Johnson, Sana Humphrey, Mhari­Anne Jamieson P6. Mrs Napier has been teaching me piano for two years and I have enjoyed playing. I am working towards grade two so it helps me to play tunes in front of people like I did in assembly. I hope everyone liked my piece of music called ‘Glad Rag.’ Ruth Nugent P7 Tuba Songs Since the start of P6 I have learned how to play 16 tunes on the tuba. There are some German folk tunes, Thinking Song, Step by Step, Skip­ ping Rope tune, Up and Down March, Climbing Up the Hills, Walking Down the Hill to name a few! Kieran Llewellyn P6 Tuba Tunes I am going to play a couple of songs for the performance. One of them is called ‘Ode to Joy’ the other is ‘Morning’ by Peer Gynt. Mr Alastair Carmichael MP for Orkney and

March to speak to classes about Fair Trade
issues.

On our Tuesday session with Mr Woods we all like to play ‘Turtle Tig’ when the catcher makes us lie on our back like a turtle, until our friend pushes us onto our front! Primary 1/2 I get clarinet with Mrs Peterson every week. I can play a
lot of tunes now. I think Mrs Peterson is a very good
player. It is very nice to play. The clarinet is big but it is

I have started playing the flute. I get lessons with Mrs Peterson once a week. I started seven weeks ago and I can play lots of tunes. Becky­Jo Smith P5
The P1/2 class along with the Playgroup are looking forward to visiting the Garrison Thea­ tre in Lerwick on Thursday 20th March to see a production ‘Martha’ ­ a wonderful and hu­ morous story about friendship and trust.

Education City is a website the children use in school. There are activities in Maths, Language, Science and French. The children can print out a certificate after completing each activity.
