Deans’ Breakfast Wednesday, April 2nd @ 7:00 am o Emily got a count of everyone who could be there. She reviewed which Deans she has heard back from. Elected Senators will also be attending. o Emily asked to have a discussion about what should be brought to the Deans. Brittney wants to talk about the Symposium as well as having a graduate representative on each college council. Tucker suggested talking about Classroom Improvement Fund; giving them an update on what was awarded. Ashley feels that the professors don’t really have a lot of school pride and have a discussion with the deans about instilling more school pride in the professors. Matt A suggested highlighting each college week. Tucker suggested each officer give an accounting of their year in office and maybe including their weeks. o Emily asked that each officer take this opportunity to introduce the incoming officer to the Dean or Associate Dean and start that relationship. o Emily took a straw poll to see who was in favor of giving a highlight of the year. Everyone was in favor, but Steve was a little hesitant. Steve said he likes the idea, but only if it gives the opportunity to get more ideas and get the officers and Deans on the same page. o Emily took a straw poll also to see who would be in favor of recapping CIF. Everyone was in favor except for Ashley Lee. Sam suggested that each college senator reports if their college receives funding. o Emily also suggested giving a brief recap of AOF. Steve liked the idea. Tucker said he could take care of that. o Emily asked who feels discussion about instilling school pride in the teachers and classroom. There wasn’t a lot of support from the body to discuss this issue. o Ashley felt that only one person should present CIF. Sam suggested that someone draft an official response tonight. Trevor will work with an officer to take care of that. o Matt D likes the idea of having a discussion of instilling school pride, but feels like it needs to be done very tactfully. He isn’t sure that we have enough time to prepare the way it needs to be done. Sam is in favor of having the discussion if we touch on the idea of changing the culture of going home on the weekends. Tucker feels that we could do an easy version and maybe have the conversation about doing it after the report of the year/week. He suggested asking what else senators can do and then ask for support from faculty and staff. Ashley said that this could be difficult where it is different for every college. o Emily brought up the idea of reporting on myVoice since it was brought up last time. Also maybe touching on Common hour since that was also reported on last time. Tucker feels that the Deans are pretty passionate about and thinks it would be a large discussion. Matt A doesn’t feel like it would be a great discussion because each Dean is very passionate about it and that we should keep it between the professors and the provost. o So the agenda will be Brittney’s report, a report on AOF, a report on CIF, then a report from each college senator accounting their year. Tucker suggested using this time just as a time for the senators to report their year. Trevor suggested that each senator review their goals for the year. Tucker suggested that every senator not take a lot of time. o Also, Matt D will take some time to talk about next year’s council. Council Updates Steve – Steve is bummed that everyone missed the networking night for EC. There were 27 alumni and over 100 students. Next week thank you notes will be written. Ashley – The benefit concert happened. The band was awesome. There weren’t a ton of people there. The Dean was there. Tucker – Working on Dean’s Forum and the closing social. April 7th will be a computer fee meeting. It is being moved from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Matt D – Education Council is trying to get the word out about new council and he is working with the new education senator. Matt D said that everyone should have got the survey about council training. Matt D asked how many council members used the P-Card. Most everyone had council members use P-Cards. From the survey, the other beneficial thing from council training was networking. E Council hates Council Training. Tucker thought it would be better to do something more fun such as football or volleyball. Ashley thought that the council networking wasn’t beneficial because there wasn’t a lot of people there and so networking didn’t work out great. Ashley likes the idea of having something fun and feels that P-Card training is beneficial. Tucker said that whatever happens, have food. Matt D’s concern is if P-Card training will benefit those in the spring. Steve says it doesn’t matter if they remember it or not, it matters if they’ve done it. There is only one grad student who has applied for the graduate directors position. Matt A – If you want to volunteer with the Scotty McCreery concert, sign up on the google doc. CHaSS Social Media week is happening now. Have everyone like the CHaSS Facebook Page. ChasSS Week posters are in. Matt needs quiz bowl questions and teams, please get those in by tomorrow morning. Matt A would like everyone to attend. It gives an opportunity for all colleges to come together. On Friday, April 4th, Todd Jorgenson will be speaking from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Please send people there! Kellie – Been meeting with McKayla. Closing Science Week dinner was last weekend. A picture book is being put together. Sam – Art Council has been fairly docile and haven’t done a whole lot. They are looking for needs within the college to see what can be done with the funds that were raised. Sam is selecting a new council starting next week. The deadline is on Monday. Go see Tarzan! It is a pretty cool production. Unfinished Business New Business Advisor Announcements If you have not emailed Kate for Blue Goes Green, Kevin wants to know why not. Matt A is trying to find someone still. Kellie just found out the old person can’t do it anymore. Steve is waiting for someone to get back to him. Matt D is too. If you can’t find it, do it yourself. Kevin said to let him know. There have been more problems with AOF being updated. If you have groups that aren’t current, DO IT! If you have it opened, people can’t get on it. Please exit out when you are done. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned unanimously.
