Burma Cyclone - Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire

Burma Cyclone: 100,000 dead, untold numbers in dire need.
Sheltered Housing
On Saturday May 3rd
cyclone
Nargis
hammered
into
the
Irrawaddy delta area of
Burma. 120 m.p.h. winds
and massive tidal waves
devastated vast areas,
causing untold deaths
and
destruction.
Disrupted
communications mean
that the picture is slowly
emerging. To date over
100,000 are dead and
many
100,000s
desperately need help:
lacking food shelter,
clean water and medical
supplies. Contaminated
water
will
cause
epidemics of water borne
disease, and the death
toll will escalate without
immediate intervention.
JOY is sending funding
via TEARFUND to
indigenous
Christians
who are helping the survivors. Any cheques please to JOY (Burma) 100% will go
directly to help those in need and your name and address mean we can add the
extra 28% if you are a tax payer. The need is urgent, as we seek to empower the
persecuted church in their overwhelming task.
We have ordered a small sectional
house to provide a home for one or
two of the disabled youngsters from
Clever Hands (Targu Mures in
Romania), whose carers are getting
too frail to cope anymore. This will
go out on a lorry in August (God
willing) together with a small unit
for an upholstery workshop for the
centre itself. This latter unit will
help to provide an income for the
day care centre, hopefully helping
them towards being self sufficient.
Both units will need completely
fitting out inside, and we hope to
send some building and plumbing
supplies to help with that. The prayer is that they will be operational before the
weather deteriorates.
China Earthquake: 4.8m homeless, 80,000 dead
80,000 people have died in the Sichuan province earthquake, the details changing
hourly as information filters through from remote areas . Through OMF we are
sending funds to Christians helping the survivors. Cheques please to JOY
(China), and we will forward them immediately to Christian workers there. Once
again 100% will go to help the victims, and if you are a tax payer we will increase
that by 28%
Lorry load delivered safely to the Home in the Ukraine
The 40 foot lorry full of equipment, furniture and supplies arrived in the Ukraine
safely and was delivered to the home for Old People near Kiev, in their letter of
thanks they wrote: “-we thought it was like Christmas with all the lovely
surprises in the shipment. Thank you again for all your help. It was worth every
minute to see the smiles of joy on the faces of our brothers and sisters in Christ.”
Rheumcare gets green light!
The rehabilitation centre in Targu Mures, central Romania, is moving into a
newer and larger building. JOY helped to initiate the work 15 years ago and has
funded it ever since, and like Topsy it “just growed” and so grew out of the
building we renovated. The new site will enable the staff to run more aerobics
and weight loss classes which raise funds for the work amongst the needy who
cannot pay. We hope to be able to fund the necessary changes to the building in
time for it’s 15th anniversary this Autumn, and that the rehabilitation from babies
with birth injury to old people with stroke will be disrupted as little as possible .
Physiotherapy classes for babies to overcome any birth damage
