You’re not very artistic and decorating cakes can require some skill but you don’t want to spend a lot of money on having someone make a cake for you. So you need something that will be easy to do and look awesome at the same time. You decide that you want to make her a rainbow layered cake. Manual Overview After reading this manual you will be able to: Gather materials needed to bake a cake Color the layers to make the colors of the rainbow Position the layers to assemble the cake Apply icing/ decorate the cake. I will not explain how to operate the oven to bake the cake and how to prepare cake batter since different brands have difference instructions. I will also not include the cost estimate on the supplies and decorations for the cake because there are a lot of different variables that could be changed depending on user preference. Supplies Before you start make sure that you have the following supplies: White Cake mix o Ingredients listed for specific batter Food coloring 9” round cake pans Whipped cream icing Mixing bowls Mixing whisks/ spoons/ knife to spread icing oven After you gather all the necessary supplies, you are ready to bake your cake. Overview of Materials Overview of Materials 1 2 How to make a Rainbow Birthday Cake Overview of Materials Cake Mix Ingredients may vary depending on the type of white cake mix. To be able to have enough for the six layers for the cake, I would recommend using two boxes of Betty Crocker® white cake mix. With the cake mix I use, it required per box: 3 eggs 1 cup of water ½ cup of vegetable oil Other Materials Needed: Along with the cake batter, you will need: Food coloring 9” round cake pans Whipped cream icing Mixing bowls Mixing whisks/ spoons/ knife to spread icing Oven Coloring the Cake Batter Coloring the Cake Batter 3 4 How to make a Rainbow Birthday Cake Coloring the Cake Batter After you have obtained all the necessary supplies to make the cake, you will need to make the cake batter according the instructions for that specific batter. After you have the cake batter, you are ready to color it. 1. Separate the cake batter into to six equal sections in bowls 2. Add about eight drops of blue food coloring and eight drops of red food coloring to one bowl to make the purple cake batter. Amount of food coloring could be changed depending on how bright you want the colors to be. Most food coloring packages come with red, blue, green, and yellow, so you will only have to mix colors to get purple and orange for the six colors. If it doesn’t come a green dye, mixing blue and yellow will turn green. 3. Finish coloring the remaining five sections of cake batter to get the rest of the colors: red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. Baking the Cake layers Baking the Cake Layers 5 6 How to make a Rainbow Birthday Cake Baking the Cake Layers After you have all layers of the cake colored, you are ready to start baking. 1.
