Levay Review and adoption of March minutes Presentation to Committee by Artist Hilary Inwood: Handout outlining summary of meeting with subcommittee members and environmental art project proposal distributed to committee members Initial proposal mentioned only Grade 7 and 8 students to participate in project. Concerns raised amongst committee members as funding was not promised to a project that does not include all students Ms. Inwood explained that given the budget, the quality of project would suffer if all students were included in the scope Conversation revisited later in the meeting. Proposal altered to include Grade 8’s and Grade 4’s this year so as to include as many students as possible in coming years (assuming program will continue) without duplicating students who have previously participated Committee voted in favour of altered proposal Ms. Pontes to be involved in working with students and maximizing participation Presentation to Committee by QSP Rep, Jill Maslanka: QSP rep invited to meeting to speak about campaign logistics Rep mentioned that campaign sales are reduced by 50% on average when schools run the campaign without any prize incentives for children Approximately 80% of our campaign sales were via internet orders last year. Each year it gets easier to report and run numbers due to increases in internet orders Discussed QSP’s cookie dough fundraising program – distributed brochures and brought cookies to taste. Currently not a nut free program Principals Update: Volunteer appreciation week – April 22-26 , all meeting attendees are invited to a Volunteer Appreciation Tea on April 26th Catholic Education week May 6-10 – Theme: Growing Together in Faith May 6 – Ballroom dancing concert – Church hall (fundraising opportunity for CSAC to sell water/food at event) May 7 – Panorama photo May 9 – Welcome to Kindergarden 6:30 pm (opportunity for uniform swap table) May 10 – Hug a school day – Student council initiative Track and Field meets to be held May, Rosary celebration – May 23, Swim Meet – weekend of May 4/5 First communion – May 5 Grade 8’s going to Ottawa May 29-31 EQAO and CAT 4 testing – May 27th – June 6th Staffing Model has been approved – teachers have been given tentative assignments, class placements are tentative until final enrollment is known Mrs. Kite is retiring Grade 2/3 class has open spot – teachers are applying now Mrs. Stergar will be teaching JK School won an award for bucket filling program(noted in Newsletter) The 2012/2013 yearbook is making good progress and should be ready by June for Sept distribution, company is requesting a substantial deposit Fila mentioned that the quality of the photos is a concern, and is reflected in the yearbook Discussion regarding price increase (currently $20) to make a profit Parish News : Any questions about the sacraments please contact Father directly Need ushers for both Communion and Confirmation -- anyone interested can contact Danny Franchi The Church thanks the Grade 8 students for a wonderful job on the Sharelife Luncheon and the clean-up of the craft sale Grade 8 retreat is this coming Thursday (April 18th) Fundraising: Popcorn: Complete now for the remainder of this school year, was ordered 3 months at a time Maria tried to meet with the rep several times but was unsuccessful Kernels will replace any bad bags, but hard to do since we don’t want to give out only some bags to students Spring Fling: 160 people is current count Set up is Thurs night at 7:30pm, please sign up on sheet or show up French Café (for 2013/2014 Proposal: Grade 8’s together with French department,3-5 classes per hour would attend Reviewed menu from other school, needs lots of organization and volunteers Will need parent volunteers & loan of kitchen equipment Students will be the servers, need to meet food guidelines CCRP (Canadian Community Reading Plan) www.ccrp.ca: A Canadian company providing magazine sales for schools Confirm pricing is the same as QSP (Stacey to look into) Have CCRP rep attend next CSAC meeting (Stacey to arrange) Send out flyers with minutes Miscellaneous: Uniform: Meeting attendee requested consideration that t-shirts should be allowed in hot weather Uniform committee to address at next meeting PRO Grant (due May 21st, 2013): $1000 grant sponsored by the Ministry of Education, all schools are encouraged to apply Common use is for experts to present to parents on topics of interest or events such as family math night, author or storyteller Group concurred we should apply, topic agreed upon is “raising healthy children” for application J. Carey has a colleague who has offered to help with grant application Confirmation: Grade 8 tea/ceremony to be held in school the Monday after the Confirmation Sub-committee Governance: F. Pavlesen asked that consideration be given to allowing CSAC sub-committees more autonomy as she attributes program delays (specifically yearbook) to a lack of sub-committee control over certain processes.
