Instructions for Set-Up and
Use of the Septic Medic Power Pack
Please read the following instructions before using the Septic Medic Power Pack
1. Box contents. One box of Septic Medic contains 8 BioPacks, one aerator, one 8’ air line, and one air
diffuser stone.
2. Obtain a pail. Set up requires a clean pail, preferably 5 or 6 gallons in volume. You may use any pail
that is of this size, or even a larger pail (you will only fill it to about the 5 or 6 gallon mark if it is larger).
3. Assemble the air system. As shown in the photo, the aerator, air line, and air diffuser stone are
connected just as they would be in an aquarium set up. Make sure that the
connections are all in place and secure.
4. Position the assembly. The entire assembly should be positioned with the
aerator above the height of the pail and the air stone at the bottom of the pail. The
system should be in a room at 60 F or higher. However, if you must position the
system in a colder area such as an unheated garage at less than 60 F, purchase a
heater suitable for a small aquarium, put the heater into the water in the pail, and
set the temperature at 70 F. Important: Be sure that children and pets are kept
away from the assembly. Open pails containing liquid can be dangerous. Do not
position the set up in an area accessible to children and pets, as there is a danger
of drowning. This is entirely your responsibility. We are not responsible for
accidental injury of any sort from use of our system.
5. Add water to the pail. Once the pail is set up with aerator, air line, and air stone, and once the pail is in
the desired location (secure from children and pets, with aerator positioned above the height of the pail),
fill the pail with 5 or 6 gallons of warm water. You do not need to check the temperature of the water,
except to note its feel by hand. If the water seems warm, it is fine. If it is hot, mix in more cold water. If
only cold water is available, that is also acceptable as the water temperature will soon adjust and become
the same as room temperature. Still, use warm water to start for optimum results. NOTE: the system
will foam somewhat as you prepare the batch. Always leave 2 inches between the top water level and the
top of the pail.
6. Add the contents of the BioPack. Open the zip-lock BioPack. This bag is NOT water soluble. Do
not put the bag itself into the pail. Add the bag contents into the pail. NEVER ADD MORE THAN ONE BIOPACK INTO 5
GALLONS OF WATER! (The BioPack contents will become hard during storage. If this occurs, simply break the contents
enough to remove them from the bag, and place them into the water as normal).
7. Operate equipment. If it is not already running, plug in the aerator. You should see a bubble pattern
on the water surface. Let the system aerate undisturbed for approximately 72 hours (plus or minus about
4 hours). It is often most convenient to set up the system on a Friday, let it aerate over the weekend, and it
will be ready to use on Monday.
8. Dose the product. After approximately 72 hours of aeration, the product is ready to dose. Unplug
the aerator (and optional heater if it is in use). Remove all equipment from the pail. Pour the pail
contents to the septic system or package wastewater treatment plant. Dose to any line, sump, or toilet
that leads directly to the septic system or package plant.
If dosing to a toilet, flush a couple of times to push the dose all of the way to its target. If dosing to a
package wastewater plant, it is best to dose directly to the beginning or head of the plant.
9. Repeat dose. Use the dose chart (reverse side) to determine the required dosage frequency for your particular system. For
severe problems in residential septic tanks, dose weekly until the problem is solved, then revert to a maintenance dose of regular
strength Septic Medic.
