The talent and professionalism of

students have won awards in and out
of school for their expertise in areas
such as writing, art, and science.
Athletically, as first time members of
the River Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, several teams were league
champions and, of course, the girls’
basketball team had an exciting run to
the state regional finals.
I know there are many other awards

can see that the 2016-2017 school year
has been successful on many fronts.
We congratulate the Class of 2017 on

Happy spring from the JH/HS:
It’s hard to believe we only have
about six weeks left of school. Before
you know it, the students will be on
summer break and the district will
officially transition into the 2017-18
school year. In the meantime, we
have a very busy spring with several
activities going on.
The seniors have returned from their
class trip to Orlando. It was a great
experience for them to get to visit
Universal Studios and the many
attractions around the area. This was
a great time for them to continue to
grow their relationships with one
another as graduation approaches.
Testing is underway as the Ohio’s
State Tests are being administered
to 7th - 11th grade students. They
began on March 29, 2017, and will
go through May 12, 2017. Please
try to schedule appointments around
these important testing dates. The
testing schedule is posted on the
school’s web page. Students will
be testing in the following subjects:
English language arts 7, 8, 9 and 10;
Math 7 and 8; Science 8; Algebra I;
Geometry; Biology; American history
and American government. Again,
please remember that attendance to
school is very important during this
time. In addition, the state-mandated
ACT test will be administered April
19 here at Old Fort. All juniors are
required to take this test as a pathway
to graduation.
The annual Lions Club Achievement
Banquet is May 15 at OFHS. The
dinner begins at 6:30, and the banquet
is at 7:00. Letters of invitation will be
mailed home.
Just a friendly reminder, as the warm
weather moves in, which we hope
it does, remember to speak to your
student about using good judgment on
their dress, and review the dress code
policy that is in place at Old Fort.
In closing, April and May are full
of exciting and rewarding events
which allow us to showcase how hard
your students have been working all
year. Let’s work together to make
the remainder of this year one that is
positive.

We are currently taking our end-of-year district and
state-mandated tests. It is important that your children
be in school for these tests. They give us valuable
information regarding your child’s growth and progress
and allow us to better prepare for their education. The teachers have visited several different Leader in
Me schools over the year. They continue to gather
great ideas to help the students in our school grow as
leaders. Some of these ideas have been implemented

productive year for us in many ways.
We have been very excited about our No Tardy days! We’ve had multiple days where all students have
been to school on time. This really allows us to have
a productive day from the moment the bell rings as
there are no interruptions when students come in late. They’ve earned several celebration days as a result. We
greatly appreciate your efforts in getting your children
to school on time.
As always, our doors are open and your comments and
questions are welcomed. Working together is the best
way to help our students grow to be the best they can be.

Art Spotlights
Mackenzie Ward
My name is Mackenzie Ward. I am a senior this year taking Art IV.
I have taken art all four years of my high school career and joined
the art club this year. After school, I participate in varsity athletics
including volleyball, softball, and basketball. I have participated
in these sports all four years as well. My favorite projects throughout my four years are water color, acrylic on canvas, mosaic, and
stained glass. My plans for the future are to attend a four-year
college and complete a chemistry degree, which I will use to then
enroll into a pharmacy doctorate program in pharmacology.
Peyton Miller
I am in Art IV for my senior year. I have participated in art class
since I was a freshman, and I have always enjoyed art because it
is a fun and creative way to express myself. My favorite projects
were the altered books, silk paintings, acrylic, and oil painting. My
hobbies include sports and 4-H. Many of my projects incorporate
my interests, which include animals, flowers, and Christmas. I
am involved in student council, National Honor Society, National
Machinery, volleyball, basketball, and softball. In the future, plan
to attend a four year college, majoring in health science, pre-speech
therapy, or pre-occupational therapy.
Emily Manasian
My name is Emily Manasian and I am in Art IV. I
have been in art throughout elementary and high
school and my favorite project has always been
acrylic and oil paintings. I get to be as creative
and personal as I want, and all of my projects
usually have deeper meanings than what my art
seems to represent. I’ve loved art since I was little, but I also enjoy music, reading, and writing.
I have been in two of Old Fort’s musicals and
was on the crew for another one. I plan to attend
Miami University, but am still undecided on my
major. Moving to a bigger city and a new town
will open up a new experience and hopefully lead
me to a future that I will enjoy and thrive in.

Noah Henry
I have been participating in the Old Fort High School art department for 4 years. Some of my favorite projects include oil
painting, silk painting, and stained glass. My favorite project
that we’ve done in class has been oil painting. It was exciting
to use a new medium and have complete control over how creative we could get with our paintings. Some of my other school
activities include the school musical, soccer, and National Honors Society. After graduation I will be attending the University
of Toledo and majoring in biology.
Allison Adelsperger
I am in Art IV. There are several projects I enjoyed doing
throughout my years in class. One of my favorites was painting
oil on canvas. This project was fun to me because the oil paint
blended very well and painted very smoothly. Another project I
enjoyed was chalk. I tended to blend bright chalk colors to make
my work pop. I am currently in the 3D art class, and my favorite
project this year was the additive sculpture. During the school
year, I have participated in volleyball, basketball, and softball,
and I am also involved in National Honor Society and National
Machinery. My plans for the future are not final yet. I will be
attending Heidelberg or Bluffton University, and I am currently
undecided on my major.
Tori Kluck
Hi, I’m Tori Kluck, and I’m a senior here at Old Fort. I’ve been
in art for four years now, and I’ve enjoyed it. Throughout my four
years, I have had many different projects. I have been fond of the
majority of the projects I’ve done. One project that I have enjoyed
the most is stained glass. Stained glass is my favorite because
it is different compared to our other projects. Here at Old Fort,
I’m involved in art club and yearbook. Outside of school, I enjoy
going fishing, being at the lake, going to concerts, and just being
with family and friends. This fall I will be attending Youngstown
State University and plan to become a physical therapist.

Elijah Cleveland
My name is Elijah (Hootie) Cleveland and I am a senior in Art IV. I
have taken Art almost every year through jr. high and high school,
and it is one of my favorite classes because it allows me to be creative
and independent. This helps relax a student from the usual school
days and assignments. My favorite projects throughout Advanced Art
would have to be our oil paintings senior year. I also enjoyed acrylic
painting, optional scratchboard, and string art. In addition, I loved
when we did architecture in Art I. In high school, I was a member of
the National Honor Society and played many sports: I participated
in cross country, soccer, baseball, and basketball. After I graduate
from Old Fort, I plan to attend a small college that will allow me the
opportunity to play basketball and pursue a degree in education.
Eric Bell
My name is Eric Bell, and I am a senior in Art IV. My favorite projects
in art are scratchboard, string art, and the different painting units.
Throughout art, I have had a unique style that is visible from most of
my artworks. My style is birds; I enjoy painting them, and I am good
at it so that is what most of my projects were. My hobbies outside
of school are basketball, soccer, wakeboarding, and Clash Royale- a
phone game. I am an Eagle Scout and in National Honor Society. In
the future, I plan to attend the University of Toledo to earn a degree
in mechanical engineering. After graduating college, I hope to find a
stable, fun, well-paying job that I can enjoy until retirement.
