Greetings Hillside Residents! Very soon, you will be heading back to the UMBC campus to begin another academic year! It is hard to believe that the summer has gone by so fast. Hopefully you all have found some time for some rest and relaxation with friends and family, when you were not at an internship, taking classes, or working. While you have been gone, we have been very busy here on campus continuing our apartment renovations. We wanted to provide an update on the status of several of our projects, so you are prepared when you arrive on campus for move-in on Monday August 27, 2012. Phase 1 of Hillside/Terrace Renovations (Sideling, Breton, Manokin, Deep Creek, Elk): The renovations are complete! Each apartment has new flooring, carpets, sinks, counters, cabinets, appliances, and furniture. There is a laundry room located in Elk for the residents of Hillside. We have a new laundry vendor, MAC Grey who has installed all new machines and will also be installing card readers so you can use money on your red card to do laundry. As part of the kitchen renovations we have installed ovens in all of the Hillside apartments and have removed the university owned microwave. You may want to discuss with your apartment mates about bringing your own microwave. (There can only be one per apartment) You will also find that we have removed the phones from your individual apartments. If you need one, you can get one through our request process on-line. Phase 2 Renovations (Cassleman, Wicomico, Antietam, Pocomoke, Patuxent) are already in full swing, but the construction company has been working diligently this summer to get some of the loudest work done prior to your arrival. As such, you will notice that almost all of the stairs and balconies are already gone. (aka what they needed to use a jack hammer for) Move-In Suggestions: Move in day will be a very busy one for Hillside. When you arrive to campus please follow the police and parking aids over towards the Hillside Community. You will be directed into the community via a oneway path. You will need to park your car and follow the signs up to Chincoteague to check in. Checking in will require your RED ID!!! Your ID card will be programmed to open your front door. You will also get a key for your room. You can then return to your car to unload, and then you will need to move your car to a permanent parking spot out on the outer loop of Hilltop circle. The Terrace and Hillside building staff return tomorrow to begin training and they are very excited to welcome you back at move-in. Please feel free to contact me, or the Office of Residential life at 410-455-8832, if you should have any questions about your check-in process. See you very soon, Doug Copeland Community Director – Terrace and Hillside Apartment Communities
