SPANISH IMMERSION PROGRAM
HOLA
Our Dual Immersion Spanish 1st Grade class is off and running! They have learned so much this year
already and we are excited to watch their progress as they move through each grade at Canyon Crest,
becoming more and more fluent.
We are very excited to have another 1st Grade Dual Immersion class starting up next year. If you have a
Kindergartener that you would like to have in the Dual Immersion Spanish class for next year, please
bring your application (below) to the School’s front office by the deadline posted on the application.
Please remember that Dual Immersion is for anyone interested in the benefits of this great learning
experience and is not limited to accelerated students.
IS DUAL IMMERSION RIGHT FOR YOU?
Here is a link to an excellent article that just appeared in Global Weekly Utah about the AUDII and our
Dual Immersion programs. If you are trying to decide whether or not dual-immersion is right for your
child, please read this article.

Conditions for Placement in the Dual Immersion Program in Provo School District
1. This application does not guarantee enrollment in the program. Students will be selected by lottery for the program, if
a lottery is necessary.
2. If the child is selected to attend the dual immersion program, it is the responsibility of the parents to provide
transportation for the student to and from the school unless the child lives within the school boundaries and is deemed
eligible to ride the bus.
3. Research indicates an immersion program is most effective when students remain in the program for a sustained
period of time. The student will be expected to continue with the program through sixth grade unless a team decision
is made, involving the parent and school staff, that it is in the best interest of the student to have a different placement.

For a Language Immersion Placement
Child’s Name __________________________________________
First Grade School __________________________________
Parents/Guardians _______________________________________
Date ______________________________________________
I am requesting that my child be enrolled in the Language Immersion Program. I understand that the enrollment of my child is
conditional on my understanding of and commitment to the following, along with space availability:
1.
I understand that parents will need to read to/with their child at home 20-30 minutes daily in English.
2.
I do not contemplate a change of school within the next six years.
3.
I understand it is not unusual for children to experience some fatigue and/or tears and frustration during the first months of
the program. Knowing this, I will not remove my child from the Language Immersion Program because of these reasons.
4.
I understand that fifty percent of the core class instruction will be in the Immersion Language.
5.
There will be two classes of Language Immersion, which will provide for some mixing of children in classes throughout the
grade levels.
6.
If my child, once enrolled in the Language Immersion Program, is not making adequate progress in the program, I will agree
to have him/her evaluated and consider reassignment to a regular classroom.
7.
I understand that regular and punctual student attendance is very important and required to retain placement in the
Language Immersion Program.
