The building located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, is three stories tall with over 100 rooms, and was designed y James Hoban. In November of 1800, President John Adams and his family moved in. The building was first known as the “Presidential Palace”, but acquired the name “White House” about 10 years after its completion. It was burned by British troops in 1814, then reconstructed, refurbished and reoccupied in 1817. ADIRONDACK MENNONITE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY, INC. MISSION STATEMENT Adirondack Mennonite Retirement Community seeks to share God’s love by providing for the older adult a home and lifestyle that are independent and dignified, secure and sheltering, purposeful and fulfilling, creative and enriched, all within the framework of our Christian heritage. To that end, we will strive to be visionary in our recognition of needs and compassionate in our approach to services. Have you noticed the beautiful foliage? I believe the colors are as vibrant as we have seen in a few years. Hopefully it will still be so by the weekend. We continue to get a lot of solicitors, despite having posted the “no soliciting” signs. Please do not let people you do not know or are not expecting into your homes. Politely or impolitely (if you have to shut the door in their face, do so) tell them there is no soliciting on this property. Any time you have a suspicious vehicle or people on the property, it is OK to report it to 911...RIGHT AWAY. Neither they nor us can do anything about it the next day, and to wait till we arrive may also be too late. Elton and I installed a natural gas furnace in our home last week. The first thing we noticed was the quietness. When the old oil furnace kicked on, it would scare the living daylights out of the grandchildren and to be honest, I jumped a few times myself! The installers also added more cold air returns and heat registers, I expect to have a more even heat and save lots of money!!! I’ll let you know how that all works out for us!! Have a great week! Why does a round pizza come in a square box? 3. What disease did cured ham actually have? 4. How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? 5. Why is it that people say they ‘slept like a baby’ when babies wake up like every two hours? 6. Why are you IN a movie, but you’re ON TV? 7. Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on ground? 8. If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him? 9. All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism. 10. Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog’s face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window? 11. How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire? 12. Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, “I think I’ll squeeze these dangly things and drink whatever comes out?” 13. Why do croutons come in airtight packages? Aren’t they just stale bread to begin with? 14. If Fed Ex and UPS were to merge, would they call it FED UP? 15. If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from? 16. Do Lipton Tea employees take coffee breaks? 17. Does pushing the elevator button more than once make it arrive faster? 18. Why doesn’t glue stick to the inside of the bottle? 19.
