"APARTHEID" LIE ON CAMPUS Each year, students on university campuses across Canada are subjected to various anti-Israel events, including “Israel Apartheid Week.” While we know that much of the campus community has tuned out the negative messaging and almost obsessive delegitimization of Israel on campus, the use of the term “apartheid” to describe Israel is scurrilous, completely false, and intended to intimidate and ostracize Jewish and pro-Israel students. The attempt to condemn Israel, a democracy that provides full rights to its Arab minority population, is part of a larger, concerted campaign on campus to delegitimize the State of Israel, using campus as inexpensive real estate. This is not an issue of free speech. In fact, "Israel Apartheid Week" and other such events, while purporting to be part of free speech, actually stifle dialogue and do nothing to contribute to the legitimate exchange of ideas in a respectful atmosphere.
