Economy
Afghanistan's economy is recovering
from decades of conflict. It has
improved significantly since the fall of
the Taliban regime in 2001, but
remains dependent on foreign
aid. Ongoing international assistance
is aimed at supporting longer-term
economic
development
in
Afghanistan.

Mineralssector
Afghanistan is host to vast hydrocarbon and mineral
resources that include oil & gas, precious & base metals,
non-metallic minerals, precious & semi-precious stones,
rare earth elements, and construction materials. While
these resources have to some extent been developed,
geo-science data indicates that considerably more
development is economically viable and technically
possible. Development of the Afghanistan mining sector
has the potential to significantly contribute to the
country’s gross domestic product (GDP), create direct
and indirect employment while providing fuel for
industry and power generation, materials for industry
and construction, for both domestic and export markets.
