NUDIE JEANS AUDIT SUMMARY MAY 2017 PORTUGAL INTERMERMAID The factory was established in 2007 as Mermaid, and in 2012 as Intermermaid. The company started in 2007 as a small knitting factory with about 10 workers, during the years the factory expanded and hired more employees to create a finishing department. Now the factory buys yarn and export finished garments. At the time of the latest audit, the total number of employees was 41; 28 women and 13 men. The facility is structured in three separate departments: knitting department, ironing and washing department and finally finishing department. The factory covers about 1000 pieces per week. Nudie jeans covers about 29% of the factory production. POSITIVE: The Nudie Jeans Code of Labor practice is posted in the local language 100% of the employee reported being treated equally and having same access to benefits, training and overtime hours. The National Collective Agreement is maintained onsite and it was available for review. It is updated regularly an provided by the Textile Union. AMONG THE THINGS TO IMPROVE WE COULD FIND: There is no anonymous paralell means of grievance for workers. The company does have a proper time recording system Both emergency exits are marked but are missing emergency lights. The company is not equipped with an emergency alarm system During the follow up visits 2013- 2015 we have seen improvements made which also could be confirmed in the latest audit made in March 2016.
