THE THREE GREAT HIERARCHS:
EMMELIA, NONA AND ANTHOUSA
Simeon had the task of translating the Bible from
the Hebrew language into the Greek language
(The Septuagint). As he conscientiously translated the book of the Prophet Isaiah, he came
upon the prophecy: “Behold, a virgin shall
conceive, and will give birth to a son” (Isaiah
7:14). Simeon became confused and took a
knife to remove the word “virgin” and to
replace it with the words, “young woman.” At
that moment, an angel of God appeared to
Simeon and restrained him, explaining that the
prophecy is correct. The messenger of God also
said that Simeon would be convinced of it
personally for, according to the Will of God, he
will not die until he sees the Messiah born of the
Virgin.

Order for Holy Communion
Members of the Orthodox Church age seven and
above must prepare for Holy Communion with a
recent confession, prayer, fasting from all food and
drink from midnight (unless medical condition
preclude it), being in church before the Epistle and
Gospel readings, and being at peace with everyone.
CHILDREN going to church school and their teachers
should come down the center aisle first. (Small
children may need to be assisted by their parents.)
ALL OTHERS should wait until an usher dismisses your
row from the center aisle. Then return to your place
by a side aisle for the prayers of thanksgiving and the
final blessing and dismissal. Please let choir members
pass when they come down for Communion.
A Warm Welcome to Our Guests
We are glad you are worshipping with us. Please note
that Holy Communion is limited to members of the
Orthodox Church in good standing who have
prepared with prayer, fasting and confession.
For all others—though we cannot share Communion
with you, since it is the expression of full unity of
Faith—you are welcome to come forward after the
dismissal, receive a blessing and partake of the
blessed bread (in the large bowls). Please also sign our
guest book, and introduce yourself to Fr. Nabil during
the coffee hour. You may inquire with him how you
can become a member.
SECOND ANTIPHON (PSALM 44.3-5)
Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O Mighty One, in Thy comeliness and Thy beauty.
Refrain: O Son of God, Who wast carried in the arms of Simeon the Righteous, save us

THE SCRIPTURE LESSONS
Prokeimenon (Psalm 28.11, 1 LXX; Tone 7)
The Lord will give strength unto His people.
Verse: Bring unto the Lord, ye sons of God; bring unto the Lord glory and honor!
1st Epistle of St. Paul to Timothy (4.9-15; 32nd Sunday after Pentecost)
MY CHILD TIMOTHY, faithful is the saying,
and worthy of all acceptance. For to this
end we both labor and suffer reproach,
because we have our hope set on the living
God, Who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. These things
command and teach. Let no none despise
your youth, but be an example to those
who believe, in word, in manner of life, in
love, in spirit, in faith and in purity. Untill I
come, give heed to reading, to exhortation,
to teaching. Do not neglect the gift that is in
you, which was given to you by prophecy,
with the laying on of hands of the priests.
Meditate on these things; give yourself
wholly to them, that your progress may be
manifest to all.
Holy Gospel according to St. Luke (19.1-10; 15th Sunday of Luke)
AT THAT TIME, Jesus entered Jericho and
was passing through. And there was a man
named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax
collector, and rich, and he sought to see
who Jesus was, but could not, on account
of the crowd, because he was small of
stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up
into a sycamore tree to see Jesus, for He
was to pass that way. And when Jesus came
to the place, He looked up and said to him,
“Zacchaeus make haste, and come down,
for I must stay at your house today.” So he
made haste and came down and received
Him joyfully. And when they saw it they all
murmured, “He has gone in to be the guest
of a man who is a sinner.” And Zacchaeus
stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord,
the half of my goods I give to the poor; and
if I have defrauded any one of anything, I
restore it fourfold.” And Jesus said to him,
“Today salvation has come to this house,
since he also is a son of Abraham, for the
Son of Man came to seek and to save the
lost.”

MAY GOD BLESS YOUR HOME AND ALL WHO DWELL IN IT
Fr. Nabil would like to come and visit with you, pray with you and ask God to bless your
home. It would help in setting up his schedule if you would let him know what days and
times work for you: email him at [email protected] or call (317) 919-0841 on his cell.
OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS
“Then to the place which the LORD your God will choose, to make His
Name dwell there, thither you shall bring…your sacrifices, your tithes
and the offering that you present, and all your votive offerings which
you vow to the LORD.” (Deuteronomy 12.11)
TITHES: If you haven’t done so already, please turn in 2013 pledge cards before leaving
today. We are asking for 011% participation from all members. Even if it’s just “two
copper coins,” like the poor widow whom Jesus praised, we all need to give back to God in
Thanksgiving. Our “tithe” (nominally 01%) should be separate from what we give to the
building fund.
OFFERINGS: the building fund is an “offering” over and above the tithe. As we see our
new building going up, those who participate in making it happen are especially blessed.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a wonderful legacy, and to be remembered at every service when we pray for “the founders of this holy house.” Please contact
Duke Haddad ([email protected] or 317-697-6839) or Fr. Nabil if you’d like to find
out more about how you can help us realize the dream we’ve been working on for many
years now of building “the church on the hill” with a gold dome as a beacon of light for all.
You can even enter your pledge online yourself at www.stgindy.org as either a one-time or
monthly gift conveniently and confidentially.
SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION
We are sending our youth to First Session, June 16-28. Please register your
youth at www.antiochianvillage.org/camp.html
Our parish will pay half your children’s cost and provide transportation, as usual, but you
need to register your children, pay the deposit, and let us know that you’ve done so by
Feb. 6. That way we can send a check from the church for all our kids, and you will have
until March 1 to pay the balance and save another $50.
WINTER HAFLI: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16
See Riyad Bannourah for tickets, or book at www.stgindy.org by Feb. 9 for a discount.
WINTER BIBLE STUDY
We continue our study of
the “Sermon on the
Mount.”
Each Wednesday between
now and the beginning of
Lent, we use the book
The Kingdom of God, by Bishop Dmitri
Royster, to explore the ways in which
the teaching of Jesus illumines contemporary life and what it means to be a
follower of Christ.
Copies are available in our bookstore.
For February 6, read pp. 41-53 ahead
of time, if you can.
