Adverb Notes
 Adverbs- describe a verb
o A basic definition of a verb is anything you can do (ie: run, walk, sing,
taste)
 Many, but not all, adverbs end in the letters “LY”
(verbs are bolded, adverbs are underlined)
o I walked slowly to class.
o She ran quickly through the open door.
o We all sang beautifully at the concert.
o I slowly tasted the squid that my mom made me try.
 Adverbs will always answer one of several questions.
o Where? - Jeffrey lives nearby the hotel. (
o When? - The letter arrived early in the morning. (yearly, today,
recently)
o In What Way? - The dancers moved gracefully in the ballet. (fiercely,
carefully, patiently, well, fast)
o To What Extent? - I totally agree with Joanna. (once, twice, frequently,
many, few, several)
 Adverbs that DO NOT end in “LY”
o Numbers (twice, once)
o Always
o Sometimes
o Often
o Never
o Here
o Not
