Grades 3-5
Objective
● Students will gain knowledge of the origins of the
Pop Art Movement.
● Students will gain an understanding of Andy
Warhol’s artwork.
Materials
● Image of 100 Cans by Andy Warhol
● Five to Six cans of the same kind of Campbell’s
soup
● Copy Machine
Procedure
1. Introduce the students to the Pop Art Movement:
a. Explain the term “Pop Art” to the students.
b. Teach the students about the famous artists of the
Pop Art Movement.
c. Show various art pieces created by the famous
artists of the Pop Art Movement.
2. Introduce the students to Andy Warhol’s specific art
pieces.
a. Show Andy Warhol’s artwork to the students.
b. Explain to the students why Andy Warhol’s
artwork is included in the Pop Art Movement.
3. Now that the students have an understanding of Andy
Warhol’s artwork and the Pop Art Movement, divide
them into groups with a can of Campbell’s soup.
4. Have the groups discuss questions pertaining to the
Campbell’s soup cans in Warhol’s artwork and the
modern Campbell’s soup cans that were distributed.

5. Use nine photocopies of 100 Cans.
a. Cut one into 100 single cans.
b. Cut one into pairs of cans.
c. Cut one into groups of four cans.
d. Cut one into groups of five cans.
e. Cut one into groups of ten cans.
f. Cut one into groups of twenty cans.
g. Cut one into groups of twenty-five cans.
h. Cut one into groups of fifty cans.
i. Keep one whole.
6. In their groups, have the students practice their
multiplication tables by using the cans to get to one
hundred.

Visual Arts:
● Standard 5.1: Demonstrate curiosity and
personal insight through observing and discussing
works of art.
● Standard 5.2: Students recognize artists and
works of various cultures, styles, and periods.
They identify characteristics of specific artists and
art movements and develop a timeline of Western
artwork.
Mathematics:
● Standard 3.6: Students make decisions about
how to approach problems and and communicate
their ideas.
